At last a local council in the UK is leading where national government is not

Taxing vehicles on weight - and thereby size - is at least some counterweight against vehicle bloat, and the damage that bigger, heavier vehicles inflict on road, pedestrian and cycle space

Cardiff set to impose SUV parking premium after council approval
Owners of large cars such as SUVs would be charged more to encourage switching to smaller vehicles.

New analysis of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first 100 days after the federal election show oil and gas, mining and other industrial groups made up about 60 per cent of lobbying records. Environmental groups couldn’t get a word in. thenarwhal.ca/carney-natur...
Carney welcomed industry lobby, ignored environmental groups: records | The Narwhal

If y’all would take a second to read past scary headlines, you’d know that not all hope is lost to save coral reefs.

In fact, the authors behind the tipping point paper made sure to mention that we can still save remaining reefs by rapidly reducing emissions.

So don’t give up. The reefs need you.

VicPD account for 23% or nearly one quarter of the City budget! If you can believe it that’s more than all of the following *combined*

🌲Parks
🚒Fire Dept
📚Libraries
💟Non-profit grants
📈Housing targets
💃Arts/culture and events
🏠Affordable housing grants

I haven't seen that one so I can neither confirm nor debunk
I used to be such a summer gal, but now I think it's autumn that really turns my crank

Infinite money for cops, almost none for basic safety.
“We’ve asked for about four or five years now to get a crossing light put in. The city always comes back with ‘We can only do 10 maximum a year.’"

The bad news is with ABC's budget cuts, that pace will be even slower. Ken Sim and ABC are failing to keep Vancouver residents safe.

What happens when a celebrated scientist is accused of fabricating results to promote his patented product? We’ve obtained a leaked investigation report into misconduct at UBC, and we’re making the findings public for the first time.

Add this to the list of "things a prosecutor really doesn't want to hear the judge say on their big day"
Judge: “The troubling thing about this prosecution is that everyone knew what was happening… It seems like these two [gestures to defendants Nyx and Kalicum] are being hung out to dry. As soon as politicians started complaining, all of a sudden VPD—which before was fine—suddenly is not fine.”
It is an interesting question how the charges got approved in the first place. In BC, we have Crown charge approval, which usually knocks out most of the cases that the cops have got beyond themselves/the Charter on.
I phoned up and booked appointments for my whole family next week: 1-833-838-2323. You do not have to wait for an invite or be in a special category. Just do it. #BCPoli
FYI for BC residents, if you want a COVID booster/flu shot, I was able to search in my emails for a previous "Book your next vaccine appointment" from a previous year and click on the link and it just let me schedule my covid vaccine.
