"Detach Quote" is one of the best Bluesky features.
.
When someone quoted your post do dunk on you - tap "..." in your quoted post, and select "Detach Quote." It will be removed from the quote, and the would be dunker will look like a moron.

Did anyone worth following make the switch over here in the latest twitter exodus? I'm assuming everyone worth following left the Nazi bar long ago, but asking just in case.

Whenever a steaming site goes down, I long for the days when spindles of pirated movies were a thing.

I'm looking at you right now, YouTube.

That’s $5 billion more than the entire annual USAID budget. All to one country. To rescue one friend of the president’s.

Trump found another $20 BILLION to give to Argentina, totaling their bailout to $40 BILLION.

Yet we can’t afford to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare.

Shame.

This is your semi-regular reminder that even if you support the death penalty, extra-judicial killings by the government are something everyone should be afraid of.

Q: There are Republicans and Democrats concerned that they are not getting information about who is on those ships

TRUMP: Well, but they are given information that they are loaded up with drugs, and that's the thing that matters

In the grand scheme of post-industrialization history he's not just A bad guy, but he might be THE bad guy, and that's still not sinking in for too many people.

After the Leafs played the Blue Jays playoff game inside the arena I had a dream about them playing a sing along version of "Nightmare Before Christmas" in the arena and while I'm sure it wouldn't sell well, it was a lot of fun in my dream.

I think I need to see if any theatres are doing it nearby.

basic research on wacky things like Gila monster venom are what gave us GLP-1 drugs that are treating diabetes, obesity, & addiction in new ways

this piece from @whyy.org is great

an analogy: navigation apps are great but don't tell you how to climb Mt. Everest & survive

Anyone who’s in the protein powder gym-maxing scene needs to go get their lead levels checked -immediately-. I would explain so fucking much, honestly

Glad to see the "Chicago rat hole" (rodent-body imprint) of January 2024 Internet fame was studied more, but just to add my $0.02: Many folks missed the tracks leading away from the body imprint, meaning the squirrel (not rat) fell & splatted in wet concrete, but then walked it off. 🧪🐿️🐾
Photo showing the outline of small rodent body as a negative (concave) impression in sidewalk concrete, with left two limbs clearly defined but missing the upper right limb (arm) and only part of the right rear limb (leg); a thin tail is implied by a pointed imprint behind the main body imprint. The photo is labeled with "Direction of rodent movement" and a red arrow pointing to the upper right of the photo, and a red circle is around a set of rodent tracks in the upper right near the body imprint, labeled as "Rodent tracks."

The level of irrelevance needed for something to get zero comments on Reddit was previously just theoretical.

"Why not say that it will make Canada look incredible by comparison?"

Because Mexico is used to huge soccer crowds in a way that Canada is not. Hockey crowds are big, but not FIFA big.

As someone who has been watching the preparation the city of Toronto has been doing to get ready for the FIFA World Cup, the idea of switching locations this late in the process is hilarious. I hope he tries it, because it will make Mexico look incredible by comparison.

Trump: "If somebody is doing a bad job and if I feel there is unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni, the head of FIFA, and I would say, 'let's move it to another location.' And he would do that ... I could say the same things for the Olympics."

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

I'm mildly ashamed to say that I wasn't actively aware of Drew Struzan until 2007's "The Mist" when the protagonist played a poster artist and Drew did an Easter egg poster just for the movie.
The poster Drew Struzan made specifically for the movie "The Mist."
Center-frame is a stereotypical Sergio Leon-style cowboy, face cloaked in Shadow. He's wearing a tan shirt, brown pants and boots, a tan serape, a wide brimmed hat, gunbelts, and two bandoliers. He's carrying two large revolvers.
He's standing on a shoreline, but directly behind him is an iron door floating in the air that is outlined by white light. The left hand of the image, far in the background, is a very tall tower. The right hand of the image is a red rose which is either very large or much closer to the viewer than the cowboy. The entire image is done in warm colours evoking sunset, and above the horizon the sky is cloudy with stars visible where there are no clouds.

The image is a reference to Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series of books, the cowboy being Roland Deschain, the primary protagonist of the series. It's an Easter egg both because the movie "The Mist," is based on a Stephen King story, and because Drew Struzan made the posters used in "The Mist" as the protagonist's portfolio.
