Since this app is getting more traction and I'm gonna try to use it more, I'll do one of those corny intro posts:

Hi, I'm Josiah. I produce a podcast called @fruitlessmedia.bsky.social about politics, media, history, religion, etc. It's pretty eclectic, but fun. I did a few pods before that.

Trump won. You don't have to do this anymore.

Young Republicans

We are appalled by the vile and inexcusable language revealed in the Politico article published today. Such behavior is disgraceful, unbecoming of any Republican, and stands in direct opposition to the values our movement...

(Since Bluesky is mostly pedants, I will add disclaimers here: Eggs are not actually a luxury item, I am using hyperbole to say that groceries have gotten significantly more expensive.)
josiahwsutton.bsky.social
Shocked to learn that under a right wing presidency, the rich are having an endless party while all of the rest of us are adjusting to eggs being a luxury item

One thing that I’ve come around on in comics is it used to seem corny and childish that a bunch of guys would call themselves the Legion of Doom and meet in an old castle where they’d be like ”hiss let us defeat the ideas of hope and love hiss” but that’s what they’re actually doing in real life lol
josiahwsutton.bsky.social
It’s awesome that they’ve accomplished this stuff by having a conversation with the companies and the companies going "sure whatever" and probably changing nothing
josiahwsutton.bsky.social
I mean, if you’ve logged on to Twitter in the last year, this isn’t really much of a shock.

Breaking: Text messages of Young Republican groups across the country have just been leaked.

They talk about putting Democrats in “gas chambers,” attacking “Jews,” calling Black people “watermelon people,” calling to “rape” their enemies, and bringing back slavery.

It is kinda baffling that it became a right wing position since the obvious solution to it is something antithetical to most conservatives: just, like, regulate shit more

I really hate that "all our food is poison" became a right wing coded health woo woo position bc it's basically correct but their solution is giving themselves trichinosis

Watching people being brutalized by the state, secure in the knowledge that I'm safe because I don't do anything wrong. And the best part? The state can't suddenly and arbitrarily redefine what "wrong" means

Federal officials telling social media companies to take down posts was supposedly a free speech crisis. It’s not even really hypocrisy, since the right was lying about much of it.
And this isn’t misinformation, foreign influence ops, or public health, just 1A-protected speech the govt doesn’t like.

At the request of the U.S. Department of Justice, a Facebook group used by nearly 80,000 people to report sightings of federal immigration agents in the Chicago area has been taken down by the social media giant Meta, Facebook’s parent company.
Facebook suspends popular Chicago ICE-sightings group at Trump administration’s request
The group, "ICE Sighting-Chicagoland," has been increasingly used in the last five weeks of President Donald Trump’s intense deportation campaign to warn neighbors that federal agents are nearby.

Basically my entire politics. I am interested in your liberalism if it's liberalism that takes liberalism seriously but I can't consider it to be such a thing if there is some racial exemptions made simply for the benefit of your preferred group in MENA. This is what liberalism in the US does.

I do not oppose liberalism as a camp per se I oppose their exceptionalization vis a vis Israel

The English Revolution was in no small part sparked by King Charles I routing around parliament to find everything he wanted through non/legislative means, despite that being why Parliament exists. Over a century later, American colonists aware of this explicitly gave their Congress power to stop it

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

This is the fucking Prussian constitutional crisis. If you let them fund the military without Congressional authorization you've just given up on constitutional government. Congress is a dead letter.

anyone else notice that the west took a turn for the worse once the concept of signaling one’s own social virtue became derogatory, almost as if cynically deriding all displays of charity and good will is indicative of a deeply cynical and nihilistic society capable of collaborating in genocide

her advocacy for Palestinians doesn't bother me nearly as much as she is so desperately doing all this as an actual act of transparent virtue signaling, to fill the absence she has in depth of character
