Don't forget about two sitting Toronto councillors!

The calculus they do with corporate rents versus store income really doesn't seem to make sense compared to every other major chain

Parker's piece is terrific and it reminded me of a great movie from 1987 called "No Way Out", where they gave the most realistic "enhance" speech by a computer nerd ever depicted in a movie or TV show, basically admitting that you have to steer "the algorithm" the way you want it to go.

There was a fight in the market dept over calling it "Wuthering Heights" or Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights, wasn't there? And the quote marks won due to Fennell not having a high enough q score

Back in my day if you made a soft adaptation you set it in an affluent American high school and gave it a new name damnit!

That's a good turn of phrase to avoid typing "Wuthering Heights" without the mandated quotation marks

Mike Myers went to my high school for a minute but didn't graduate there

So unless you're into hockey the most famous alum is Will & Grace's Eric McCormack

A few actors. A few guys who were in the NHL

But the funniest one is Elton John's Canadian husband
Who's the most famous alum of your high school?

I'll go first: David Draiman of Disturbed
guys i just found out i went to the same high school as howard lutnick. please respect my privacy at this time.

Warren Kinsella continues to be the worst
Toronto Sun columnist Warren Kinsella is posting fake CBC News Network screenshots on X dot com falsely claiming CBC is using terms like "policepersons" and "gunperson"

I'm one of the dozens who saw Freddie Got Fingered on a big screen
Have asked this before and always like the responses. What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes? Couple of mine:

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Office Space (1999)

I've been to a lot of film fest screening but won't count those. Or cool one offs like seeing Fucked Up play a live score to West of Zanzibar

But for theatrical I'll start with
Preview screening of The Rocketeer as a kid (1991)

And most recently
Sinners in 15 perf IMAX 70mm (2025)

It's budget time so coucil is talking about inefficiencies. But the biggest inefficiencies I encounter are departments just not talking to each other.

Sidewalk plows shouldn't be going to neighborhoods on garbage day

TTC shouldn't be scheduling shutdowns during major events

Etc etc

It's taken weeks for our interior annex sidewalks to get plowed. Today I finally saw a plow on the sidewalk. But it came on garbage day so it was having to leave the sidewalk and skip entire sections because garbage bins were in the way

Mike Layton retiring from city politics without having an ideological replacement lined up really screwed over my riding. We ended up with this rich, car friendly NIMBY masquerading as a Green as our councillor

My local councillor has gone from champagne green to echoing the mantra of Rob Ford.

No, there's not a hidden gravy train. Expensive consultants were brought in. KMPG found minimal waste, and the "efficiencies" Rob brought in saved 1/10 of what he claimed
Councillor Saxe asks if there's a hidden "gravy train" at city hall — waste that could be cut without cutting service.

"There are not hundreds of millions of dollars of 'waste'," says City Manager. But he notes city is always looking for ways to be efficient. $135 million in savings this year.

His achievable goal is to say whatever takes to pull off the SpaceX IPO

Power Girl TPB title?

This is for the IPO. Now that institutional investors are going to be involved he suddenly has a slightly more feasible mission statement

See also tying Grok to SpaceX. Datatcentres in space don't make sense but give the rockets another thing to actually do.

Luge looks fun until you realize by the end they're going fast lane on the highway speeds.

There are some great videos of the ref just chatting with the players the whole time. Hockey refs are constantly managing the players not just calling penalties
