And if they didn’t do a detailed investigation then somebody would be screaming about a cover up.

We’re often told to “think critically” online. But in today’s attention economy, that’s only half the battle. The other half? Knowing what to ignore.
New post on "critical ignoring," a powerful media literacy skill for cutting through the noise.

The Overlooked Skill We All Need Online: Critical Ignoring
Thinking critically matters, but in today’s attention economy, knowing what to ignore may matter even more.

I had my psychiatrist write me a letter excusing me from participating in lock down drills. I cannot help children practice their own murders any more.

Disability is one of the only minority groups you can join at any time.

Everyone thinks they will be the exception.

It won’t happen to them. They will “try harder” and overcome.

They think we’re failing.

It is not a moral failing and very few people will be the exception.
That’s my guess. The next season would have been racing Couladin to Tear to grab Callandor.

I think the worst excuse for using AI is "but I'm making anti-Trump resistance memes with it". Oh my god I'm so sorry I didn't realize, carry on
I used to teach some Palestinian kids and mom’s last name was spelled differently than theirs because she had immigrated later and it was Americanized differently. Stuff like this still happens.

My name can be spelled Leung, which is closer to how it’s pronounced by my in-laws.
One of the things that happened is that if you were Chinese and got here early enough, your family members would have different legal last names--that wouldn't even read the same to white people here--because there was no standard romanization.

With the AI Google summaries, people aren't just cherry-picking the failures. The only time it is 100% is when there is an extremely easy and well-known answer to your inquiry. If it's anything you'd actually need to dig to find, it will hallucinate a fake answer basically every time.
I still have that one burned into my retinas.

If your government says there's too many autistic kids, then eliminates the entire special education department, they don't care about autism, or kids, or education.
I’ve been recommending THE SAPLING CAGE by @margaret.bsky.social to anyone who will listen since I read it. Queer coming of age fantasy novel. First in a trilogy, but the first tells a complete story. Killjoy’s prose is very elegant.

Chug your metal vials, drain your spheres, ink your soul stamps, and prepare your Breath #WoTSkies… Brandon will be attending #JordanCon2026!!!
I’m pretty sure Miller already does that for free.
I used to read 600-700 page fantasy novels every day, read historical biographies for fun and I still could not finish the Scarlet Letter. The one time I taught American Lit, I substituted Rappacini’s Daughter. It’s much better and easier to digest.
I flew this weekend and I’m pretty sure I saw this, but with the volume off.
Multiple airports are now announcing they will refuse to play Kristi Noem’s government-funded video blaming “Democrats” for the government shutdown.

“We believe the Hatch Act clearly prohibits use of public assets for political purposes and messaging,” one airport said.

I started watercolor painting this year. I also go through coloring books pretty fast.
Idle prediction: We see crafts like knitting, model airplanes, etc. become more popular because you can't ask Chat GPT to make you a sweater or glue together a P-51 yet and therefore they become more impressive feats relative to other hobbies you can "outsource."
i had to keep an address book because I couldn’t remember any number but my own. I still don’t know any numbers except mine.
If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Special education isn't a "nice thing to have." It isn't "charity" or doing something to make us feel better. It is a right. The right to a Free Appropriate Public Education is codified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, signed by a Republican president.

Teach middle school. You’ll figure it out or die trying.
Forgive me if some of you have long ago sorted this out for yourselves. But I just realized that the problem with getting roasted by kids isn’t that they are so good at it — which, okay, some of them are — it’s that the adult is totally hamstrung! You cannot curse them out or break their spirit!
I just finished listening to her interview on the Georgia Politics podcast and whew. She is not good at making a case for herself. Her centerpiece is creating a Sandy Springs school district and it does not seem well thought out.
