So according to six #HamOnt councillors, @cameronkroetsch.bsky.social resistance to Doug Ford's #Bill212, is part of a "War on Automobiles"?
Here's Part 1 of my attempt to find the language they found threatening and "divisive". 🙄

The use of AI to marionette a woman whose tortured existence was spent trying to carve her own life and identity out of the space men forced her into is both damningly macabre and a surprisingly perfect encapsulation of the problems with this ghoulish use of technology.

Looks like Brian Clifford based on CMHC data.
It’s a more granular version of this.

Congrats to all the local policymakers fighting to keep cars the only safe and convenient transportation option.

“Once rare, 7-year car loans are fast becoming the norm. They’re often the only way buyers can afford new rides, with average sale prices surging 28% in 5 years to approach $50k.”

Designed-in car dependency, surging car prices, longer loan periods with more interest.

Sound like “freedom” to you?
Cars are so expensive that buyers need 7-year loans

Pretty freaking wild to hear "actually AI is useful for climate change" constantly and from people who should know better when the people deciding how the massive resources it consumes are used are saying stuff like this

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

They make it clear which lives matter and which don’t because you never hear them mention Palestinian hostages, and when they do, they’re often referred to as prisoners or detainees instead, painting a very different picture.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

I am being asked to tell my department which pieces of lab equipment should be supported with backup power because they expect rolling blackouts and brownouts in 2026 due to increased energy demands from AI. In case you're wondering how my day is going.

"The richest man in the world and the owner of the most influential social media site in US politics is a nazi who openly supports and amplifies other nazis" would, on its face, seem to be rather newsworthy!
whstancil.bsky.social
Hey news people: I know you like to pretend this doesn't exist, but you need to pay attention to the Nazi drama on Twitter. Basically, it seems as if Elon just restored two major neo-Nazi accounts that were banned by his product head, and might be about to fire the product head for banning them

“Postmedia is the nation’s leading supplier of climate change denial and pro-oil industry propaganda, so it’s not surprising that they would dismiss academic research and rail against bike lanes when they provide an inexpensive solution to interrelated emission, pollution and congestion problems.”
Latest bit of Montreal 'bikelash' sidesteps the facts to please bike-lane haters
The findings of a study about bike lanes vs car infrastructure have been twisted by a Montreal publication in a cheap bit of bikelash.

Cllr Cooper continues to cite climate change as a reason to add lanes to the Linc/RHVP, after all cars melt glaciers even when they're stuck in traffic.
Climate should be the obvious and biggest reason for that Metrolinx report request. #HamOnt

Unlike 1995 there's no social housing budgets for Liberals to cut.
Graph showing annual affordable/social housing builds from 1960 to 2000s. The number flatlined during the years that the Chretien and Martin Liberals were in power.
