Best trick is to find some people who you really like and follow the people they follow; that gets you rolling quickly. And like I said, then follow tags.
jaythurber.bsky.social
I love it. It's easier than it seems. The biggest "problem" is there's no algorithm, so you have to follow hashtags; otherwise you don't see anything.

The thing I don't like is that it's not always easy to follow people; you often have to go to their page manually and follow them.

I think the counter argument to “Ellison and Weiss will turn CBS News into an unstoppable propaganda machine” is Bezos’s WaPo which lost basically all the talent and also is in a subscription death spiral

She has the common touch. A real woman of the people
Growing pains are to be expected for Weiss, a successful and charismatic operator who nonetheless has no experience running a TV news network, much less a newsroom as large as the one at CBS News. After the call, Weiss returned to her office, outside of which stood two burly private security guards.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

Honestly, the U.S. Senate is a fundamentally anti-democratic (small-d) institution. The U.K. has a House of Lords, but it has relatively little power compared to the House of Commons. The Canadian Senate is similarly limited. Our system is so great, but no other country has copied it.

McCormick is pleasant and smiles a lot, and he isn't an obvious raving lunatic or an insane religious fundamentalist who wants to create a Christian theocracy, and in Pennsylvania, that's enough for the media to treat him as a moderate.
jaythurber.bsky.social
Counter-argument: A lot of U.S. senators have been sleazeballs (Strom Thurmond, Theo Bilbo, John C. Calhoun, Joseph McCarthy) and he fits right in with them.

The best trick he pulled was running as a moderate during the 2024 election, and the PA media didn't call him on it.

Why do they support these things? White men gonna white men. They are not immune to the same propaganda that's been spewed by talk radio and cable TV for the past 30 years.

And Fetterman (56) and McCormick (60) are both older Gen X'ers/younger Boomers, which means they're Trump's P1 demographic.

They want to kick people off of Medicaid and Medicare. They want to break unions — especially teacher's unions. They want to end food stamps. But they don't want to say it, because they're cowardly. Instead, they let Trump do it, and then cluck their tongues about his "tone" and his "language."

I think where I'm at now, regarding both "good Republicans" as well as "sensible Democrats" like "Johnny Short-Pants" Fetterman, is that they actually support everything Trump wants to do, but they know it's political poison with their constituents, so they give these mealy-mouthed responses.

U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick (PA) supports what ICE is doing to our fellow citizens, in case you had any doubt.

So if ICE throws you on the ground, crashes into your car, or arrests your kid's teacher, just remember it's OK with Dave.

Dear Jason,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding immigration enforcement. Your feedback is essential as we work together to shape policies that benefit Pennsylvania and our country.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a component of the Department of Homeland Security, is responsible for enforcing the nation’s immigration laws. Within ICE, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) identifies, arrests, and detains noncitizens who violate the Immigration and Nationality Act (P.L. 82-414). Under federal law (8 U.S.C. §§ 1226 and 1357), immigration officers have the authority to apprehend and detain individuals who are unlawfully present in the United States.

On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed into law the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) (P.L. 119-21), a budget reconciliation bill I supported that authorizes $165 billion in new funding for the Department of Homeland Security, including $29.9 billion for ICE enforcement and deportation operations. These resources will enable the federal government to comply with statutory immigration enforcement mandates in an efficient and lawful manner.

The federal government has a responsibility to enforce immigration laws. I support President Trump’s efforts to restore order at the southern border, uphold the rule of law, and protect American communities. This includes detaining and removing inadmissible individuals who pose a threat to public safety and national security. My office remains committed to ensuring that established standards and appropriate due process are upheld through careful oversight and ongoing engagement with DHS.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve our great Commonwealth in the United States Senate. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter. I am always grateful to hear from my constituents.

Sincerely,

Dave McCormick
