lol I saw that review too.

As someone that still frequents the TV Tropes website (and even makes edits there from time to time), I 100% agree.

The ironic part is, like any term popularized on the Internet, its original purpose gets co-opted to mean broader things, making it even MORE useless.

Not to dunk on an individual review, but it is fascinating how the internet's obsession with tropes just led to word soup commentary that rarely engages with the actual text.

"Filler", "plot armour", "lazy writing", "Mary Sue", etc. Never actual insight.

Americans want to watch charismatic people solve moderately difficult problems on a weekly basis. That’s it. And a group of fomo execs and techbros who don’t watch TV drove one of the most profitable industries in the US off a cliff rather than accept that.
Look what happenes when a TV show releases every year, with more than 8 episodes a season.
Why not? It’s cool to know every trope! You’re no fun.

TV Tropes gets a lot of flak for how people use it as a substitue for truly engaging with media, but it's still a good resource, imo. If you want to find media with a particular theme, for instance, it provides a way to do that.

It's not about the media, It's about respecting other people who want to have the same experience as someone who got to see something without knowing a plot point that's meant to be a surprise. I don't get to go to the theater so I have to wait to see movies months after they've come out.

TV Tropes is blocking access to the site not only if you have ad blockers on but location tracking off unless you want to subscribe to their $5 a month/$25 a year subscription plan. Even people who have turned their ad blockers off are reporting the site isn’t working. This all seems like a bad idea

Finally saw Terminator for the first time.
I 100% get it now.
Something like this absolutely would not be made today, fascinatingly. Definitely a product of the 80s.
Made me realize where Metal Gear's action movie DNA comes from, the 80s.
Watching T2 tomorrow.
9/10.
Mmm, I love Myrra~ What I wouldn’t give to watch her make big smelly brown deposits in that lake~

Watching Renegade Cut’s new vid on Charlie Kirk and he has a handy list of things Kirk said over the course of his life.

Notice that, as I’ve said before, everything Kirk said was factually untrue.
