I very much wish the whole Platner tattoo thing hadn't happened, it would be much better if he really was an ideal progressive candidate able to take on Susan Collins

However, there is a huge silver lining here: we are learning a lot of important info about certain individuals and orgs on the left

I'd make a case that ableism backslid incredibly. When I was in college, frats did charity events to "end the word" for the "R-Word" and now even left-wing progressives use it. People use "autistic" as a pejorative now online. But honestly, the amount of antisemitism I see online is just shocking.
Antisemitism just very bleak to think about as an issue. Like in terms of how widespread a prejudice it was 20 yrs ago compared to today I don’t think think any other prejudice has seen more backsliding. Really just a combination of worst case scenarios.

There has never been — nor will there ever be — a greater innovation than OkCupid’s “I don’t want to see or be seen by straight people” setting.
I RESENT THAT I CAN'T VOTE FOR MAMDANI IF YOU CAN VOTE FOR MAMDANI PLEASE DO.
In the audience tonight is Charlotte Bennett, one of the 13 women that Andrew Cuomo is credibly alleged to have sexually harassed while they worked in his government.

She can't speak for herself because Cuomo's lawyers have hounded her.

So I confronted him.

NYC Mayoral Debate

MAMDANI: I want to make NYC a better place to live

CUOMO: I want Mandala over here to admit he can't do anything, because I can't do anything

SLIWA: I would drink a $27 Moscow mule from Andrew Cuomo's skull

It really is somewhat shocking to see so many people who lay claim to organizing doing such a remarkable job of being as unpleasant as possible to everyone around them

After much discussion with people who think No Kings Day was a party and not real organizing, I have two broad theories:

1) A lot of them define organizing as actively insulting and belittling anyone not already in their organization

2) they don't like parties because they aren't invited to any

Look I am just saying that if we simply threw women, Black folks, immigrants, LGBTQ people, Muslims and other minorities under the bus we could go back to discussing the class-based white people politics that I, a white male pundit, am most comfortable discussing. Is that so hard?

People have this idea that surviving an atrocity, or being descended from atrocity survivors, imbues a person with some kind of nobility (or, even worse, deep morality) when the truth is all it does is fuck you up, which can manifest in a variety of ways
Also this sort of thing is why I’m like… there’s no honor in being descended from genocide survivors, some of us are real assholes

Just stepped off the Senate floor after almost 23 hours.

The fight isn’t over—we need to keep standing together to resist Trump’s attempts to tighten his authoritarian grip.

All these people are saying “wait to you think he’s REALLY a Nazi,” and my response is “no I think it’s more likely he’s an irony-poisoned edgelord douchebro, another group that’s absolutely ruining the fucking country.”

if his attitude from the jump has been "I did this as a kid and have been ashamed of it since, it was a terrible mistake" I don't think I'd mind. but he's just not being honest here and that's suspicious as hell.

i liked how Platner was campaigning and I am prepared to believe a young marine could make literally any stupid mistake. but I don't believe a guy could spend twenty years maturing politically the way he has and not know what a death's head means

Each state can limit Citizens United in their own state & they don’t have to wait for other states to do it.

No, we can’t just agree to disagree on our opinions and live peacefully together when one person’s opinion is that the other can’t live in peace. Everyone already knows this, yet people pretend otherwise when it inconveniences them
If I had to pick between Sliwa and Cuomo, I'd vote for a republican for the first time in my life.
An interesting about Sliwa is that he’s old guard Republican so he talks about supporting the working class a lot. He’s not a guy who has moved further and further right with the party over the years. So as much as he’s *not our guy* he ends up being more aligned with left values then MAGAs.

You really gotta hand it to Cuomo, though, for being such a unifying force in that everyone fuckin hates him

No you are not the greatest country in the world and no you are not the worst country in the world, like most countries you are just kinda mid and it is way past time to grow up and accept this

I really need Americans to get past this stage of silly exceptionalism where they run around claiming that other countries are incapable of doing evil or awful things unless they're directly copying what some idiot in Idaho wants
The US is blazing a trail for right wing extremists everywhere - openly violate the constitution and see what you can get away with. Chip away at political norms and institutions. Simply ignore constitutional law by shifting the Overton Window and corrupting the party in power and its judiciary.
