I’m not sure I’ve come across a console game manual quite like Microcosm yet - most manuals, even the most story heavy, tend to have a clear delineation between “in-universe” story stuff and the nuts and bolts “how-to” parts. This is almost 50 pages of in-universe writing.

But yeah, PERSONALLY, and maybe controversial, but I feel that Valve should raise the cost of entry to weed out a lot of slop and low quality projects (can barely be considered games) that have no place on a legit gaming platform.

1. Valve never has to guess what it's customers want. Weirdo amazing games can come out of it field and succeed.
2. The store is not clogged because you never see these games unless you search by name. Niche fans still have access
3. Nobody can get mad at Valve because it's purely customer response.

The way the Steam algos work, as far as we know, is that first they let them customers decide, then "hide" bad games. The benefits are 3 fold as far as I can tell (cont. below):

I think this article is missing something that should be said explicitly: There are thousands of BAD games released every year that are not just "undiscovered," but intentionally ignored by both gamers and Steam's algos.
