ha, it's always been just the opposite for me. the horrible taste of mint made me hate and avoid brushing my teeth when I was a kid. When I was a teenager I found a very mild, almost flavorless toothpaste, and started using that.

I'll tell you a similar trick in case you didn't know, the loader design I posted uses it, if you have a flat unpowered rail that leads straight into a block, then when the cart arrives it will be stopped by the unpowered rail, but then when the rail later receives power, the cart will leave

the detector rail might not even be needed here idk but that might make it too sensitive to timing and the speed of your cart when it arrives.

the detector rail will turn off the powered rail when a cart is arriving so that it gets held in place long enough for the hopper to start pulling items out of it, then while the hopper is pulling items out of it, it continues to unpower the rail until it's done

if you have the powered rail on a slope to nowhere like this you shouldn't need anything to hold the cart in place. the unpowered rail will hold it in place for you.

I know that in recent days there has been a lot of hullabaloo about moderation happening at the PDS level, which risks undermining the selling point of ATProto. One explanation that has been offered is just that lower-level moderation has not yet been fully implemented by bsky implementors.

Huh. I don't get the necessity of action labels. Seems like annotation labels should suffice and the "action" that gets taken should be up to the appview to decide.

these people really do believe what they claim to! (at least until they are down on their luck and have nowhere to turn) and by appealing to their sense of "freedom" in the libertarian sense, we can cause developments in the superstructure that empower the proletariat

by manipulating ideology we can manipulate behavior. in order to find the resolution to a contradiction, we have to understand and make use of ideology. in the case of bsky (another example that comes to mind is valve) we have a technolibertarian ideology

may be true, but not very useful. but there is a model we can use that is more useful. the explanation is ideology. people will act against their own interests according to their ideology. race isnt real, but racists think it is, and they (often but not always) behave according to a racist ideology.

I think bsky is a good illustration of a principle that although the general tendency exists for a class to act in its own interest, at the case by case level we often see individuals and even organizations acting against their interests and the only explanation that gets offered is "they're stupid"

because it means that arguing over whether ai is stealing or not is irrelevant, and instead we should talk about other issues like ecological impact or job security
