I'm taking the plunge and putting my fiction online after years of the cop in my head telling me that it ruins your chances of ever getting "really published." Fuck that shit!

Read my story for 3 bucks! That's cheap!

A transgender sysadmin is startled by the appearance of a magical city floating over the port and yearns to somehow arrive in its untarnished streets. A tale of near-future cyberpunk ennui, fantasy, and coming out aggressively to bigots online. But it was spring, and I felt pretty good, like when you're up at two am drifting through back alleys until you have to clean the shit out of your hand before it seizes up. That feeling where you're gonna do something stupid but you don't care yet. The sky was that color it gets when the humidity isn't up yet but the air's finally warm. I had my beer in one of those fall-apart plastic sacks from China, the safe ones, and you know how quickly they tear up. But I took a long route home that landed me outside the port as the sun set.

For the Shadow of the Colossus story, we interviewed 14 people including project leads Fumito Ueda and Kenji Kaido, hired Gravity Rush concept artist Takeshi Oga to illustrate the cover, and put together a 10,000-word story with help from @milkman.bsky.social @shmuplations.bsky.social and others.
Shadow of the Colossus: An oral history
Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Team Ico’s masterpiece by looking back with 11 people who worked on it (and three who didn’t).

Okay this is a visually cluttered shot, and that bothers me artistically, but look at the HAWK I found just hanging out on my rail, while this SQUIRREL is just like ho hum I’m not scared, where’s the food, lady?

(I too use Excel constantly now, and even enjoy it. I've had supervisors ask for my sheets to see how I'm doing weird shit too. And I'm entirely self taught, as above in your thread)

*: not even majoring or anything! just some extra classes, or even a hobby interest! any attempt to wade into anything without obvious binary answers leads people to be able to go, "well, I don't know how this works but I can surely figure it out"

there seems to be growing data that humanities education* tracks to increased flexibility and ease of training in the future, and all this llm crap is filling in the gaps of people who didn't do that and don't know there are other ways to deal with not knowing how to make a spreadsheet a priori

its not just "oh the owner is an asshole and moderation sucks", X is a fully fledged arm of the American govt both as propaganda and surveillance, and existing on that website is simply setting up shop CLOSER to the folks who wanna hunt down minorities and get them fired/doxxed/etc

ok listen. i know no big platform is actually "safe" atm. Bluesky is run by shitheads, this place sucks too.

that being said, i need to fucking implore you, Twitter's unsafety is on a whole other level. there's "not safe" and then there's the actual wolf's den.

Long story short, an actual Nazi doxxing ring. Enough people reported them that they went away for like 12 hours and then Elon personally brought them back. The site is dead. If you’re still on there, go lock your account right now

Yeah it sucks. Even when I was in a really connected blogging sphere where everyone commented on everyone's stuff, it was also getting spread and discussed via twitter simultaneously. Smoothing off the rough edges of communication was something cohost did well, without succumbing to a lot of shit

I had a student repeatedly -- that is to say, after being told "hey you're obviously using LLMs stop it" write about "the Suzuki method" of learning music... instead of Izumi Suzuki's short stories.

That's the funny one. I also got a *lot* "discussing" stories from the collection we didn't read

No, I don't. I'm imagining why one would call for wolf teeth for hydromancy. I see it as reading.

i went out on my lunch break to take pictures of birds with my new lens and had very bad luck. i gave up and was walking back toward my building when this northern mockingbird landed on a branch eight feet from me to vogue for a minute. maybe my favorite picture i’ve taken so far.
a northern mockingbird eyes the viewer warily while perched on a branch. it’s surrounded by leaves of various colors, our of focus.

neither of those hunt though -- reading sign to learn the right answer (where the food ran off to and how to reach it) I guess
