anyone who suggests that “british people “ should be doing the dead end,low paid jobs immigrants come here to do needs to lead from the front and sign up their kids first

saying that terms and pay need to improve is a cop out not a solution

Michael Gove wants to talk non-prescription psychotropics with me and the weight of the irony is crushing me.

Powerful stuff this guy must be on. Does it need a prescription?

I notice most of the brave hacks, Guido alumni, and Tory mouthpieces, who manufactured a scandal - a dangerous one to national security - out of gossip, supposition, and sticky tape, have gone quiet now the witness statements were released and are exactly as the PM detailed.

Turlough Conway shows that two men associated with the murder of Malta’s most famous journalist were also key donors to Nigel Farage’s pan-European political project

This is such a good corrective by @chrisgiles.ft.com to the "working-age welfare spending is exploding/out-of-control" narrative that more & more people seem to see as an incontrovertible fact www.ft.com/content/ee67...

Reform UK has been forced to reject more unlawful donations than any other British political party in 2025

the party has had to give back almost £200,000 this year from 18 impermissible donors, according to Electoral Commission data

What the Chinese spying case witness statements reveal

The Crown Prosecution Service appears to have made at least one serious error, while the government's position now makes sense

By me

emptycity.substack.com/p/what-the-c...
Yesterday this blog sought to make sense of the decision to drop the Chinese Spying prosecutions on the information then available, and averred that both the positions of the government and the Crown Prosecution Service did not make sense.

Now the government has published three witness statements, the picture now changes. The government’s position now makes sense, and the CPS looks as if it made at least one serious mistake and possibly another.
It filled gaps in high streets that even vape shops and Turkish hairdressers turned their noses at I always suspected the landlords lobby also had a hand in that policy decision and wonks faced with two winners rarely look twice

Glad to hear this. I maintain that one of the worst, but definitely the most overlooked, thing Blair did was a completely unnecessary liberalisation of gambling laws that allowed bookies to flood the market yet provided no benefit to the British people themselves.
What were the odds of that happening?
It's difficult to see how Labour’s war on the sick and disabled will insert so many round pegs into square holes that are showing no sign of rushing to employ them another tabloid friendly welfare policy doomed to fail

There is no need for a moral panic about the UK's welfare system.

Far from perfect but recent discourse is nuts

Spending is controlled, not spiralling

Worklessness is near record lows

Fraser Nelson is the perfect example of a polemecist masquerading as a journalist he takes a tiny metric in a sea of data and manufactures a false crisis completely unchallenged by his peers in the media which then becomes gospel

Someone send this to Fraser Nelson please (who keeps talking about a workless crisis)...

In initial comments at #PMQs, very good to see Keir Starmer clearly and comprehensively outline why the baseless claims against the Government on the China spying case are just that; baseless.

It took place under the Tories, and therefore the case had to judge on the previous Government's advice.
Does it make you smile(y)

Here we go again with the ‘only high earners work hard’ BS. Straight from Tory Press Office this one.

Something smells very off with this whole piece. Most of those cited were born around/after when Thatcher resigned, so have no personal experience of her.
This , u til we acknowledge that lawson and lamont are the architects of our decline no forward movement can happen and the ppl who profited most from that own most the media inc this one
You know what's a big factor in the perpetuation of the #doomloop? Journalists who are determined to prevent any prospect of an sober and coherent public discussion of fiscal policy and public finances.
Shadow chancellor Mel Stride claims UK in 'tax doom loop' and Reeves to blame
In his Sky News interview with the chancellor, Sam Coates put it to her that the UK was in a “doom loop” where the government needed to come back every year with higher taxes to fill a black hole in the public finances. Rachel Reeves replied: “Nobody wants that cycle to end more than I do, Sam.”
Chasing farage has been very unpalatable for left leaning people like me and when I saw the greens labouresqe manifesto while miliband was faffing about with those silly stones a while back I started looking closer
It's too little too late they've already ceeded that ground
