Not quite a month later and dad's ashes are FINALLY ready for pick up. My uncle, dad's bro-in-law, is kindly making the trip back to PA for us to fetch him home, so at least we don't have to make that trip again. Next up: planning his 'celebration of life'. And I need to work on his eulogy. Ugh.

Kracken!Steard had a ghostly pumpkin visitor, and the rest of the family visited the photography studio to pretend they went to the pumpkin patch. (They took a vote and decided it was too rainy to visit in person, so studio portrait was the next best thing. 🙄)

As I said to mom, we've been capable of far more than dad ever let us do, so it isn't that we *can't* do this stuff. We're just out of practice, and the re-learning curve is steep and very, very annoying.

The biggest thing I miss so far due to dad's death is the mental load he carried for all the household stuff. He was the grocery person, the main cook, kept tabs on house upkeep things (changing air filters, defrosting freezers, yard work, etc) You know, the things that keep a household supported.

The healthiest thing we can do for the internet is get as many regular users as possible running their own websites. You could buy a domain and such, but a super easy starting point is to get a free subdomain of neocities.org, which is like geocities but existing now.

Up early, made bread, did solid organizing work for the retreat, bumbled in the attic for the big coolers, emptied then defrosted the upright freezer & refilled it, started sister's b-day cake (sponge & filling done), put away grocery order, and now I'm sitting. Whew. Busy day so far!

Yesterday was an okay day - only a few teary moments. Today started with texts from my great-aunt asking about memorial details & checking in, and tonight I have my first therapy appointment since everything happened. I also have the doc for the eulogy-in-progress open, so today's just a lot. 😒
