Great news: Chris was able to get tickets for this. Thanks to everyone who helped!

Hey, can you all do me a big favor? My childhood friend Chris recently found out he has terminal cancer. He has two daughters.

One of them, Alivia, wants to go see Alex Warren with her dad in Columbus, Ohio.

If you know someone in his orbit, send it to him. If you don’t, please share this post. ❤️

If you're willing to do Fedora, Bazzite is a nice alternative to SteamOS that does 90% of what Valve's distro does

I tried running it with niri as an alternative window system. It is so close to working out of the box in that context, but it just doesn't. I think it's very promising if they can offer a PaperWM-style experience. It feels lighter and less burdened than GNOME.

It's mostly a few software tweaks.

That's what I just installed. I'm not wild about tiling (I prefer the PaperWM style sliding) but I am curious how the new WM performs compared to GNOME.

I installed the Pop!_OS beta on an actual disk. I briefly considered the overhyped Arch install from the problematic tech executive just to see what it was about and decided against it because it wanted to nuke my whole disk. No thank you.

Ragebaiting people on social media is ironically the exact kind of unproductive, divisive-for-no-reason discourse that Bluesky critics (and critics of the left more generally) claim it engages in

Ratio me. Please. It's a badge of honor. If you don't like a link, go follow some chicken-heart who needs the approval of the thought-police. Caitlin Flanagan of @theatlantic.com is a tremendous writer and this piece is an excellent read. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

The fact that they kind of backburnered Apple Silicon really upset their best users. Like enterprise cares about collaboration, sure, but I’m a guy who has been paying you $120 per year for a decade. Seems like you might want to be on top of that!

I keep seeing an ad for Dropbox featuring Death Cab for Cutie over on LinkedIn. It is perhaps the most me-coded ad I’ve ever seen, because as a middle-aged geriatric millennial, I give a shit about the cloud service Ben Gibbard uses.

Too bad Dropbox screwed it up 5+ years ago.

Kimmel probably cares about ratings, but a Sunday morning show that would likely be on the air whether or not anyone watches (thanks to the FCC’s public affairs programming rules)? Just pure laziness on Vance’s part.
ernie.tedium.co
Journalists had long been taught to not think about their ratings when reporting. That has changed with the internet, but it is definitely not the focus of a Sunday morning show.
ernie.tedium.co
If you point at ratings, you’re deflecting. And not very well, I might add.
ernie.tedium.co
I gotta add. He tries shutting Stephanopoulos down by pointing at his show’s ratings. I’m sorry, but the fact that you accepted the spot in the first place is a sign that you need to have a presence there.

STEPHANOPOULOS: I didn't insinuate anything. I asked you whether Tom Homan accepted $50k as was heard on an audio tape recorded by the FBI in September 2024. You did not answer the question. Thank you for your time.

VANCE: No, George, I sai--

STEPHANOPOULOS: We'll be right back

I like this fresh showing of spine by ABC. More of this.

That’s generally what a day atop Hacker News pulls in.

Our Demento piece got linked on Citizen Free Press, a Drudge-like site, and we got a comically large amount of traffic from it. Like 7,500 visitors in two hours.

This year, I've had so many productivity issues. Whole days lost, deadlines completely blown I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with me

Yeah, so for the last 48 hours I decided to tune out the news and concentrate on an article and surprise surprise: it was the fascism this whole time

The $1/month plan is a nice gesture.

Hopeful you get a bunch of people to hop aboard.

On an unrelated note it's nice to see that the left took back the frog in the span of a week

Which I think explains why they're really not meeting this moment where we're essentially playing political Calvinball

As someone who was at one time somewhat on the inside of the Dem consultant world I can tell you this the fundamental problem with Democratic consultants (and I assume GOP consultants too) is that they would rather know why they lost than not have control over why they won.

I saw a member of Tinariwen faint at a show and that was pretty weird. Bet a fight would be even more notable
