Looks like we’re building up to an all-timer of a lineup for Oscar gays whose truer sexuality is Best Supporting Actress.
Bazin's "metteur en scène" tag has never felt more apt.

Makes his own kimchi and likes the warm sound you only get with vinyl.
We'd be lucky to have it be Glen Powell, because it would probably be Chris Pratt now.

Between KING OF COMEDY and LAST TEMPTATION, the '80s have two of his three masterpieces in my corner (TAXI DRIVER the other).
Define our musical taste in 8 artists:

Stevie Wonder
Erykah Badu
Björk
Laurie Anderson
Kerri Chandler
Louis Cole
Ken Nordine
Prince

I excluded Prokofiev and Ravel for ... well, no good reason really. Stuck with individual artists also; sorry, EW&F, KING and Masters at Work.

Steve Reich
Gang of Four
Little Feat
Bill Evans
Tool
Aretha Franklin
Wye Oak
Abul Mogard

I thought about this for as long as it took to type, with maybe a slight pause before Wye Oak because pop-adjacent woman singer/songwriter is a big category of my taste.

Feels pretty basic, also pretty true
To be fair, why would any exceedingly attractive 34-year-old in the prime of his life, as Wells is, want to watch something like that?
Trying to do this without naming any of the perennial top-10 placers on varied all-time horror lists…

CREEPSHOW
OUTER SPACE
THE CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE
PULSE
Quote this with the first four Horror movies that come to your mind that are 10/10s for you. No cheating. Just the first four that pop into your head.

I'll go first:
-Silence of the Lambs
-I Saw the Devil
-Coherence
-Jaws
Would pay good money (but not 4 ponds’ worth of water) to see Mac try to survive an early Walter Hill movie, tho
btw, chef’s kiss for what I am gonna assume is deliberate metadata sabotage on @vinegarsyndro.me’s part

I will admit to occasionally having the problem of greeting a new genre blu-ray announcement with "Those movies are terrible! I hated them all 30 years ago! I will buy this immediately"
Specifically D.W. Griffith, who seems to be perpetually ahead of of the natural half-life that comes from canonical attrition. (That most film fans to this day don't know anything about early box office blockbusters that weren't BIRTH OF A NATION or GONE WITH THE WIND feels deliberate.)
It's probably inevitable that most of the revisions are taking place among movies closer to "now" than "then," but want to point out that @moviessilently.bsky.social has been doing great work to undo the accepted wisdom about the accepted canonical storyline of the first quarter-century of film.
I also think that, at the time, picking DAY OF THE DEAD over NIGHT and DAWN was considered "a choice," but one that time and <gestures snarkily> all that has validated.
He did work worthy of Pauline's rigging of the NY crix awards in her day (also complimentary).
Definitely, though I think we'd make room for Luc Besson's LUCY today.
There's absolutely no way that MIAMI VICE or BLACKHAT (or, hell, THE KEEP) wouldn't find their way onto 100 Essential Films 2.0 today.
In my memory of the timeline, the Slant list came after Rivette's comments, but SHOWGIRLS was planned for Slant canonization ahead of Film Quarterly publishing their roundtable. And then Girish's blogathon helped seal the deal.
