A broad mountain lake lies in complete stillness, its surface so calm it mirrors the sky and peaks with near-perfect clarity. In the distance, a massive, rugged mountain rises with commanding presence—its upper slopes washed in muted amber and rose tones from the fading light. The lower flanks descend into dense, dark conifer forest that drapes the shoreline in deep green shadow.

Wisps of illuminated cloud drift above the ridgeline, their colors reflected directly below in the water, creating an inverted, painterly double of sky and stone.

Near the foreground, the lakebed is visible through the clear shallows—small, smooth stones muted by depth and faint color, offering a quiet counterpoint to the grandeur beyond. The reflection of the mountains and clouds stretches across the entire frame, rippling only slightly.

Oh it's good not to be on-call! I have just a few pics and need to get out birding to get some images. It's supposed to rain this weekend, but I'll try and make the best of it.

A Great Blue Heron jumps up out of the water onto a log of a downed tree. It's wings are fully spread showing it's great wingspan. The image was taken at a local arboretum. It was raining shortly before the photo was taken.
