Here's one for #RockinTuesday! These rocky shore are hard to navigate but worth the trouble!🪨🤘👨‍🎤🌊💙

"Ancient tales unfold,
In the silence of the stone,
Earth’s secrets reside."

A stone laid to rest on the rocky shoreline of Vancouver Island. Its watched as centuries of tides have come and gone, watched seasons change and stood witness to storms that would make the brave of us shake. Stones, the stoic spectators, sharing secrets of the soil and stars.

Boom Lake. This tree was standing the last time I was at this lake, one year ago. I made this photograph with a Leica M246 and a 35mm lens.

The image shows the ruins of an old stone abbey under a bright, partly cloudy sky. The sun is shining brightly from the upper right, casting a warm, natural light over the scene. The ruins are made of large, weathered grey stones, some of which are covered in green ivy and other creeping plants. On the right side of the image, a large section of a wall stands, with arched windows and doorways visible. The stone is crumbling in places, revealing its age. The foreground is filled with a jumble of large, moss-covered and lichen-spotted stones that have fallen from the structure, creating a chaotic and rugged landscape.
The ground is overgrown with lush, green vegetation, including ferns and various types of leafy plants. The overall impression is one of nature reclaiming man-made structures. In the background, beyond the ruins, there is a large, open field of vibrant green pastoral grass, sloping gently downwards. This field is bordered by a dense line of trees in a wooded area with full, green canopies The trees recede into the distance, where the land meets the horizon.
The sky is a brilliant blue with large, fluffy white clouds that are illuminated by the sun's rays. The light is a significant element, creating dramatic highlights and shadows and giving the scene a serene, almost ethereal quality. The combination of the ancient, decaying stonework and the fresh, thriving greenery creates a powerful contrast between the past and the present, decay and new life. The photo captures a moment of quiet majesty and historical depth, set within a beautiful natural landscape. The image is rich in texture and colour, from the rough stone and smooth leaves to the bright sky and deep shadows. It evokes a sense of tranquility and the passage of time.

One for #RockinTuesday

Wester Wick, West Mainland, #Shetland, #Scotland. September 2025

The rock is part of the Sandsting Pluton... more in Alt Text

A site I will be visiting again as there is much more to see 📸

#Geology #Landscape #Seascape #ClassicMono #Photography #EastCoastKIn
Black and White. 40-50m high granite cliffs have been smashed and eroded by the action of the wild North Atlantic leaving a series of sea stacks scattered in the bay of Wester Wick. The sun glints off the water which stretches to the far horizon.
The granite rocks are part of the Sandsting Pluton, igneous rocks that were formed between 393.3 and 358.9 million years ago during the Devonian period. Another sign of the volcanic history of the Shetland Isles.

A realistic oil painting to two crushed cans on a dark grey background. The can on the right, a Rockstar Energy can, is gold & black, creased & wrinkled. The can on the left, overlapping the Rockstar can & leaning slightly to the left, is a green, black & white Monster Energy can.
