Broke: young people like conservative Christianity

Woke: young people like progressive Christianity

Bespoke: The Book of Common Prayer 1979 of the Episcopal Church represents conservative Christianity in every way that matters (sacraments, Creed), and progressive young people like it

Many Gen-Zers “bring a new attitude to the combination of faith and politics, and many see politics as a matter of spiritual warfare,” writes Daniel K. Williams, a historian of American religion and politics.
Opinion | Why So Many Gen Z-ers Are Drawn to Conservative Christianity
And what that might mean for the future of American politics.

Fun fact: Christianity WAS in fact sneered at as a ‘religion of slaves and women’ by the Romans back in the day.

When I mentioned this in my early church history class folks minds were 🤯
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
there's genuinely quite a lot of 'christianity is a religion for losers' stuff on the new right and well yes! that is the point! it was a faith of slaves and women, as the romans sneered.

Donald- So I just admit that I was wrong and I get to go into heaven?

Jesus- Yes my child. I paid the price for your sins when I died on the cross

Donald- But I have to admit I was wrong?

Jesus- Yes my child.

Donald- I like messiahs who weren't crucified.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

Still can’t get over how based “the body of Christ will be free” is as a protest chant. I mean it has LAYERS.

It’s difficult to talk about well, but I really do think we need a bit more of the fear of the Lord - as well as a trust in his mercy and remembrance that he is on the side of the oppressed, the downtrodden, and the poor.

The actually oppressed, not people who can’t cope without constant deference.

My French charcutier suggested I make, basically, cassoulet from his smoked chorizo and all of a sudden New Orleans cooking makes more sense.

I’m not a politician at all but I do know if I were a state senator being a mayor would not be on my list of next steps.

I recently realized my former neighbor is running for mayor of New Orleans which struck me as really really odd for him to do.

I may have to borrow the chant in Chicago for later dates

Love your neighbor love your God
Save your soul and quit your job

It was always clear to me that the President and the administration was going to favor a specific type of Christianity.

Seeing it all out in the open should give everyone … of any faith or of none … serious serious concern.

After four years of absurd claims about a Democratic administration “targeting” Christians, one thing seems obvious:

We’re overdue for a public conversation about the severity — and the frequency — of the Trump administration's clashes with the faith community. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
Team Trump’s clashes with the faith community go from bad to worse
The political world is overdue for a conversation about the severity of the conflicts between the Republican administration and the faith community.

I was going to share “calliope” from my former place but locals pronounce it exactly as it looks (KAL ee ope) while tourists pronounce it “kuh LYE uh pee” so … doesn’t fit the rules

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

the thing that infuriates me the most about this bullshit is that I am 55 years old born and bred in WV. In my heart I am old and just want to be white trash and mind my own business. I wanna be sitting on the glider on my back porch a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off watching the birds.
