Ya girl finally emerged from her bunker (a month of depression) and I'm pleased to say Hand Me the Mike is BACK with a discussion of Joshua Oppenheimer's 2024 musical THE END. @rosswbermaniv.bsky.social joins for a very rich conversation. We talk a lot about ACT OF KILLING, too. 🔗➡️

Devastating to hear about vendors taken at Swap O Rama. Back of the Yards has had no rest for weeks. Every day on assault on immigrants and anyone that is existing while Brown.

Alderwoman Julia Ramirez of the 12th Ward which spans part of the southwest side posted a video statement on social media. She says that her office can confirm there have been 30 detainments/kidnappings throughout the ward. She says that 15 people were taken at Swap-O-Rama in Back of the Yards.

If you go, you may even see a familiar postcard....
Before my first Chi Film Fest screening I turned to Joe and was like "who do you think did the voice over for the sizzle reel this year?" and then joked "what if it's Michael Shannon?" Well.....
Really genuinely love that the chi film fest has been running with so many Michael Shannon photos for festival promo despite him not having anything there this year lol
3 minutes in heaven, chicago

"Visitors will get 3 minutes inside the mobile Closet, which is the same exact dimensions as the real closet at Criterion’s headquarters. The closet will be stocked with more than 1,700 Blu-rays from the Criterion Collection." blockclubchicago.org/2025/10/16/c...

Even in the local scene, I have an easier time getting Chicago updates on Instagram than I do here, even though all the news-y Chicago accounts moved here from Twitter. And I really don't want to get news from IG lol
Far from the most egregious thing going on right now but am I imagining that since feds dropped into Chicago, news helicopters have been taking liberties flying lower and louder than they were before? Even just for traffic coverage?

I definitely think that's true. I honestly didn't know how bad the doxxing had gotten because my feed is so curated at the moment.
I've seen multiple posts today that are like "you can't sign on without seeing nazis" and I'm like oh ok I just see my pals so that's a little weird
Enabling those accounts and Musk's whole deal is obviously an issue. But the experience people describe makes it sound like the dark web?
It does blow my mind when someone mentions that they can't believe anyone stayed on Twitter because of the inescapable nazi content...like I *know* it's there and rampant but what are you guys doing with your feeds lol because but I almost never encounter it naturally

Had a blast talking with @daniellamazzio.bsky.social about THE END, Michael Shannon, and the place where music and movies intersect: The Musical

This ep also features me somehow figuring out how to talk more about THE INSIDER, but it also features more of me singing at the beginning, so there are pros and cons.

Listen through the end (hah) for a song from @rosswbermaniv.bsky.social!

Biting my tongue
the city of chicago releases itself of all liability
The TÁR comparisons feel like they would be too obvious, but there is literally an establishing shot in the movie that includes a poster for "Mahler's 4th" and a third act monologue that might as well be a beat-for-beat rewrite of Tár's Julliard monologue.
REVIEW: I really, really, really, really, REALLY, really did not like AFTER THE HUNT. The actors try their best, but it's a tiring, self-satisfied script—and not even in the ways you'd expect. Toothless.

Review: After the Hunt - Chicago Reader
Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt is far too comfortably self-satisfied, resulting in something that ends up quite toothless.

Glad to be working with UMedics on a protester health and safety training tomorrow. We need more of these around the city. We’ve got great street medics in Chicago, but we’ve learned lately that we need more people to know the basics of how to care for each other in protest scenarios.
