and I think this thread operates in this context also

a lot of us who are already in exile know how to survive, we lack material resources and we need people to listen to that
shengokai.blacksky.app
We can see this in how folks are pushing back hard against even the barest hint of disagreement with horrible fucking ideas like "RSVP online for a protest," as if we should sit the fuck down and let our betters decide our path to liberation. As if we don't know how best to deal with the moment.
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
if they wanna donate food that's one on ramp we have made and also that's a thing that can be replicated locally // autonomously especially if there is a relationship with people at school who already have address information
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
ohhhhhhhhhh, thank you for illuminating that for me

i have no context for that 😂
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
there is a *lot* of this happening
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
put what passes as American leftism through a global analysis and everyone in America on the 'left' immediately breaks down to being liberal
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
i have been in spaces recently that include people with an impulse to poke fun at moderates and liberals

the function of this is usually to make social glue with others around them and to make it clear that they do not view themselves as liberals

when i say we should take an internationalist view
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
the tours at Robben Island are given by those who were imprisoned inside its walls

while many guides pay deference to international solidarity in bringing down the regime of apartheid in South Africa, that is for the ears of tourists

our guide spoke of armed resistance and winning
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
we were out on 18th yesterday and while eating tortas, I thought I heard whistles and basically froze

my companion who is white offered to go out and check what the street scene is like and

a bunch of us would have been trapped and i could feel my blood pressure rise
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
when i share space with those who want to make liberals an out-group without recognizing their own limitations on being more leftist, i wonder who that is for

after all, if Americans want to be considered leftists in a global context, the only thing stopping Americans from doing that is Americans
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
a local researcher is so good at ensuring that i continue to listen and learn and zoom out to an internationalist perspectives

this morning's learning session:

Legal Counterinsurgency & the Repression of Left (Anti-Colonial, Anti-Imperialist) Movements
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
in a global context — South Africa, South Asia, Palestine, Sudan, Vietnam — it has taken armed struggle to work toward overcoming imperialism and racial capitalism
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
i was reminded of an organizational structure and checked a book, deciding to reread it

non-profits undercutting the knowledge our elders hold is one of the great violences of the State

a saturday under fascism in america
a picture of a book by ghassan kanafani

the revolution of 1936-1939 in Palestine
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
another common place i will see people make an out-group for liberalism is to imagine themselves as comrades of the Black Panther Party rather than call themselves liberals

but very few Americans will take up militant armed struggle, they are more likely to take up misogyny
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
"Not surprisingly, these movements that were toppled by informants and provocateurs were also sites where women and queer activists often experienced intense gender violence as the autobiographies of activists such as Assata Shakur, Elaine Brown and Roxanne-Dunbar-Ortiz demonstrate."

the imagination of the American who does not take an internationalist view often relies upon the American Revolution as revolutionary activity

the American Revolution was reactionary not revolutionary
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
we were having a conversation about housing policies last night and how chicago is built the way it is

when the sears tower was built, it happened only because we relied on someone who took a global view to housing

i think chicago could use more internationalist takes that aren't reliant on europe

why yes, i did fold you a note
a picture of paper folded sheets of paper into squares with pencil and pencil sharpener

it takes work and forever conversation to make sure it's ACAB not

ACAB but

if we get to "ACAB but" or yell about surveillance and policing while using a ring camera for our own internally justified reasons, it fails externally for the rest of us
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
a nice thing about these kinds of conversations is that it will definitely lead to her asking about more things she thinks are emergencies and testing that concept

today though, she learned what you can do and who you can call if someone has died that does not involve calling the police
marigoldmimsy.bsky.social
watching the chicago marathon, marshalled by so many police

her: why would you call police for non-emergency

me: why would you call police at all

her: for an emergency?

me: what emergency are you thinking

her: if someone dies?

me: that's not really an emergency...

her, sideways look: bro

I am not convinced this is in conflict with what JB Pritzker thinks the Illinois State Police should be doing and he never practiced managing the Illinois State Police, requiring them to bend to his direction in a conflict.

Instead, he gave them a pension sweetener this year.

Live rn from a tiktok user at Broadview, Pritzker still has the Illinois state police out in force protecting 🧊 and brutalizing protesters there

These MuckRock tips include an example from The FOIA Bakery about requesting email logs!

If you request an email log, you can use graphemails.com to visualize who is sending each other messages (and even identify key accounts linking separate groups of people)
screenshot of graphemails.com shows a sidebar with two horizontal panels next to it. The sidebar has controls for uploading and filtering data and styling the graph. The top panel shows an uploaded email log, filterable by search bars under each field name. The bottom panel shows a network graph of dots representing senders and recipients connected by lines representing emails
