a lot of chicago's news ecosystem is based on access journalism and when i do a FOIA workshop with people, it's always a point of discussion

local press is not making challenge, they are making clicks and if we want challenge, we have to do it ourselves

they tell it to investors not us plebs

there are over 18,000 emails sent in one day via the chicago police department + department of homeland security fusion center, one day!

the part of the cpd special order i am looking at is

"disseminating information by the following means: email messages"

i accidentally typed the chicago department of homeland security and deleted it but i think that's what it should be called

CPD and DHS are talking all the time, all the time
the chicago police department has an entire directive called Crime Prevention and Information Center (CPIC) and it specifically admits coordination with federal agencies

it's really interesting to me how some reporters will key in on Black women (Toni Preckwinkle, Katrina Thompson, Lori Lightfoot) and their actions but will absolutely not do that to other officials in the same way (Brandon Johnson, Daniel Biss, Tom Dart)

yup
That's something the city council should probably keep in mind at today's CPD budget hearing.

In a year where the majority of departments took haircuts, CPD's budget is up again. (It's also the only department to have gone over budget in every one of the past full budget years, 2022-2024.)

yes
November 26, 2025 at 3:33 AM
i mean, we should also critique Brandon Johnson's budget proposal in the city which also increases the police budget

being of two worlds, racialized and exile are complicated topics to undertake, American classics authors don't have the range so it's intriguing that someone thought to try

there were a lot of police at the legion park situation on september 9

the city of chicago was definitely using the threat of an excavator hanging overhead to justify its actions against people

good job, carlos
the memo that the chicago park district wrote to alderman Nugent came in, dated in March 2025

"The City of Chicago does not criminalize homelessness."

but, i did get more garlic into the ground and am working through my last of the trombocino, garlic, rosemary, bok choy, mustard and peas harvest

i am not complaining about the harvest, i'm excited to make a trombocino mash 🧄

ever wonder why Jesse Sharkey resigned when he did, maybe he thought he'd escape this

the lawyers are going to make a lot of money

i'll be interested to see what the rest of labor does in response to this, if anything

labor unions have been used to be exclusionary and nativist so i'm not holding my breath for a left flank reaction but a girl can always dream
November 25, 2025 at 3:34 AM
i think it's interesting that the entire email builds toward how to pass the Mayor Johnson's budget, which is in shambles and increases the police budget while repressing a left flank

and SEIU is not playing ball with CTU or this administration any longer
