Rest in Power, Miss Major.💔

On solidarity: “We can’t go it alone… I mean, you can try, and get knocked down and get up and try again, and get knocked down and get up and try again. But that’s how it’ll be, until somebody helps you up and says, let me stand with you.”

“the shrew’s extinction increases the tally of Australian mammals extinct since 1788 TO 39 SPECIES.

This is FAR MORE THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY.

These losses represent ~10% of all Aust’s land mammal species before colonisation.

It is a deplorable record of trashing an extraordinary legacy.”

Vote now, if you haven't already, for the Guardian's Bird of the Year 2025

It helps to nominate a bird that's endangered, giving it a much higher profile - like Baudin's black cockatoo for example

Please vote - this is a wonderful environmental exercise

Least Chipmunk relaxing in the afternoon sun

Least chipmunk is relaxing on a metal fence post backlit by the afternoon sun. There is barbed wire connected to the post. The chipmunk is looking off to its left. The background is soft focus tan and gold.

In a week from now, I'll be back out on the tundra to see these big, beautiful bears. I can't wait! 🌿🐻‍❄️ #mammals
Two large, male polar bears spar on their hind legs in the misty morning sun, among the flashes of gold of a few remaining willow leaves. The bear on the left is biting the cheek of the bear on the right. A polar bear sits pensively among the bare willows as light snow flutters around it.

Israeli leaders screamed their genocidal intent at the top of their lungs all the way through.

No crime in history has been so confessed to as it actually happened.

But almost all Western media outlets suppressed this.

Kudos to @scotnational.bsky.social for not being one of them.

Pretty sure I say this every Columbus Day, but getting hauled back to Spain for excessive brutality in 1500, just as the Inquisition was really getting fired up, is some genuinely Evil Guys Hall of Infamy material

It infuriates me that as human-made porn is being increasingly censored across the board, AI porn is not only allowed, but celebrated. And AI porn exists because of stolen content from non-consenting, unpaid human pornographers. It's maddening.

“I still can’t believe how unhinged the last update was. Not only the nudity but the motions, boobs bounces more realistically, it’s incredible.”

Elon Musk's xAI seems to have relaxed filters on Grok's video generation, allowing users to create and share explicit AI pornography.

Wild that anyone bothers to celebrate Columbus when they could just pick anyone at random who’s ever made a wrong turn.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

Discworld QOTD, from Hogfather
The late (or at least severely delayed) Bergholt Stuttley Johnson was generally recognized as the worst inventor in the world, yet in a very specialized sense. Merely bad inventors made things that failed to operate. He wasn’t among these small fry. Any fool could make something that did absolutely nothing when you pressed the button. He scorned such fumble-fingered amateurs. Everything he built worked. It just didn’t do what it said on the box. If you wanted a small ground-to-air missile, you asked Johnson to design an ornamental fountain.

It's entirely typical of the messenger and his constituency that such inflammatory speech fed the fire resulting in dead police in Wieambilla and Porepunkah. Elected politicians using metaphors promoting violence normalize the weak minded's conviction that their violence is righteous.

National/ACT Coalition government spends over $100,000 a year on a road cone hotline that increasingly hardly anyone uses - with each call leading to less than one road cone removed.

And they took this funding from real worksafe work

After 5 months of the heralded ‘tipline’, just 204 road cones are confirmed gone
In Whanganui, information from the Government’s own Road Cone Tipline had actually led to more cones being put out than taken away. In Wellington, 110 complaints resulted in just two cones being remov...

I spent some time with the young Agami Herons yesterday at Agami Island #costarica

So many youngsters are still around the colony, busy fishing in the canals. The adults are long gone now and the kids are own their own.

One of the many touching things that happened this past week was that my friends at @merrymacsanctuary.bsky.social named a new rabbit after Fergus. Like my Fergus, he is BIG and soft and sweet and has huge adorable paws.
