New folks following me from starter packs, hi! Unfollow if you find me boring. I’m a chronically ill middled-aged grad student & artist in Edmonton. I’m not famous & I’m not especially funny. I don’t have a newsletter but I might post about sickness, vegan snacks, prog rock, or performance art.

Afterwards, I felt like a total fool for having given away my time, energy, and expertise and for thinking this curator got in touch because they were interested in my art. I was so dismayed.

Wincing reading that. One need a proper shoe to city walk, but especially in a place like Paris!
compulsiveobserver.bsky.social
It’s especially awkward when the people asking for consults have institutional power and you don’t! I did a consult that I didn’t even know was going to be one, I thought the curator in question wanted to present my work.

I say this with peace and love, but if you are contacting disabled people to do sensitivity readings and disability culture consults WITHOUT PAY, please rethink making that request.

I always try to be as helpful as I can be, but I need to eat! 🫣
We deserve to be paid for our labour 💖

As someone recently 'doored' and concussed after cycling in sharrows,
I'll spell it out again...

Paint.
Isn't.
Infrastructure.

Another reminder that a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Separated Bike Lanes Means Safer Streets, Study Says — Streetsblog USA
Cities that build protected lanes for cyclists end up with safer roads for people on bikes and people in cars and on foot, a new study of 12 large metropolises revealed Wednesday.

When I go see performance work and the performer is barefoot, I get sympathetic back and leg pain.

It’s not perfect but it makes biking much more safe and accessible.
compulsiveobserver.bsky.social
I’d love to bike in Edmonton but the fact that most lanes seem to be unprotected and many high streets dont have lanes does not make it inviting. I biked a *lot* before moving here, now I’m nervous.

I’ve been on the same dosage of gabapentin with zero issues for 6 years, I really don’t need to tell him it’s still working and I have no side effects every 3 months.

I’m going to bring it up next time I go in. I think it might be that he’s young and really wants to do everything ultra by the book. He’s been great for ordering tests and actually trying to find out what is wrong so I like that part.
I could understand if I were on opioids or bezos but I’m not.

My Montreal doctor was harder to see but had no issues with year-long refills and renewing online.
compulsiveobserver.bsky.social
He seems weirdly over cautious about done very run-of-the-mill meds. As someone who suffers from severe PEM and whose prescriptions all end at different times, it’s not exactly accessible to have to go in person all the time.
compulsiveobserver.bsky.social
A very annoying thing about my new doctor is that he doesn’t want to do prescription renewals by phone and only renews for three months at at time. I’m not on any controlled medications and apart from my thyroid meds, everything I take, I’ve taken for 5years+ with no issues.

Great thread full of receipts on Carney’s standing up to Trump
is anything but.
tryangregory.bsky.social
To Carney, "Elbows up" means buying American jets, building a pipeline to sell our oil to the US, joining a US missile defence system, opening our markets to more American dairy, and kissing the American president's ass at every opportunity.

This is what you voted for, is it?

I once got to barge in on Deerhoof practicing and caught a half song, that was pretty awesome.

Fun fact, you can answer all of these questions by talking about how much you want the government to protect you *FROM* "AI" rather than how much you want them to fund it. Give it a try!

Canadians: The federal government is seeking public input on how AI should be developed and used in business, research, and the military.

I’m not sure how much of a privilege it when you have an untreatable condition.
