I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.

Cornell is cancelling a distinguished professor's classes on Gaza and suspending him because of the complaints of a student who previously served in Israel's military surveillance agency and was literally recording the comments of other students in class and deliberately derailing discussion.
Early last semester, Droubi said, students began approaching Cheyfitz with complaints that a graduate student in the “Gaza, Indigeneity, Resistance” class appeared to be recording them, possibly to “gather their names and comments” and intimidate them. “We believe that a student came to the course for the sole reason of surveilling and potentially harming students in the class,” Droubi said. “That ended up proving itself to be true because multiple students came forward and shared their concerns with Professor Cheyfitz.” Cheyfitz said one Palestinian student quit the class after telling him she felt upset and frightened. Current Issue Cover of October 2025 Issue October 2025 Issue According to Cheyfitz, the graduate student often steered conversations away from the assigned readings—which at that point mostly focused on definitions of genocide and international law on Indigenous rights—to defend Israel’s conduct in the war in Gaza and argue with others in the class. “He clearly had not done the readings,” Cheyfitz said. “It was disruptive.” Cheyfitz said he met with the graduate student in late January and spoke to him about concerns from his classmates. During the conversation, he asked the graduate student to drop the course, and by the next class, he did, Cheyfitz said. The graduate student, Oren Renard, a PhD candidate in computer science whose identity was confirmed by other students in the class, previously served in Israel’s elite military surveillance agency, Unit 8200, according to his LinkedIn profile.

In addition to antisemitism allegations, Frenk said the government has charged UCLA with illegally using race in admissions and discriminating against women by recognizing transgender women in sports and other areas. Frenk said, "those are valid concerns, and we need to address them," adding that UCLA follows state and federal laws. He said UCLA has been "compliant" with decades-old state law that bans use of race in admissions. Regarding transgender athletes, "that's not an issue we're dealing with on this particular campus" because UCLA is part of the National Collegiate Athletics Assn., which bans transgender women from sports teams. As for the government's demand that UCLA end all gender-affirming care for minors, the chancellor said, "We are going to have to follow whatever rules the federal government proposes." UCLA, he said, does not offer gender-affirming surgery for transgender minors but does offer other treatments, such as hormonal prescriptions or puberty blockers. He said the campus would "have to see" how federal policy on the matter developed. A UCLA representative later said the university stopped offering gender-affirming surgeries in June 2024. The services offered before that, the person said, were chest procedures. They did not indicate why the medical care stopped.

It is difficult to describe the feeling this gives me, as someone with IDL who has build her entire adult life in the UK. I've been feeling unwelcome and unsettled ever since Brexit and its anti--immigrant platform. It breaks my heart everyday, but this is why the UK can never be my actual home.
