If you are thinking of gifts for Xmas this year, my book about tabletop games, The Game Changers (UK, other territories) / Across the Board (US, Canada), is out in paperback, audiobook & ebook. I think it is good for anyone who loves boardgames old or new, or who likes stuff on culture & history.

Rumi, Mira, and Zoe slammed through our entertainment siloes last summer, resonating across gender and age borders faster than most parents could say "Saja Boys."

it’s almost as if all of the things folks argued would happen after race-conscious admissions were limited - precipitous declines in Black enrollment, among them - are happening. weird how looking at history can tell you a lot. who would have guessed it.
Black student enrollment at elite colleges is dropping, by nearly half at some schools, just two years after the end of race-conscious admissions. This trend threatens decades of hard-fought progress in education. We must find new ways to ensure equity and representation.
Black enrollment is waning at many elite colleges after affirmative action ban, AP analysis finds
An Associated Press analysis finds that the number of Black students enrolling at many elite colleges has dropped in the two years since the Supreme Court banned affirmative action in admissions.

I love that this exists and more people need to read it. I'm finding it very difficult as my younger friends start to claw their way out of financial dependency so they have the choice to leave one day, even if they don't want to. They would like the choice. #HoldingItTogether @jessicacalarco.com *

The climax of the Hobbit literally lays that out in plain words.
It will never not be lost on me that the tech weirdos whose brains got scrambled on Lord of the Rings missed the central narrative of the book which is that friendship and good simple food is what makes life worth living.

We're not feeding the children we have. Why does the government want more. If schools are sending home backpacks full of food and churches are subsidizing our country with food pastries, why does the government want more children? Certainly not to educate them

I once had to go to a food pantry in November, and because it was close to Thanksgiving, the line to get in wrapped around the block. This was back in the early 2000s. Also when people had access to SNAP. Imagine what it will be this year without it.
If you can afford it, a *monetary* donation (it goes a lot farther!) to your local food bank would be a most excellent thing to do right now.
I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.
I found this clip while looking for the source of her saying the frog costumes are classified as Antifa, which I haven't yet and it's spreading like wildfire. Proof or Photoshop?
1000% increase in attacks on ICE Agents since January 20th might have to do with the increase in ICE Agents/Kidnappings since January 20th but who am I to connect dots when there are only two dots? That is also giving her the credit of having a source for her 'data.'

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.
