A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

God damn, this one got me. "I cannot make peace with the world such as it is, and so I cannot anesthetize myself into acceptance—and I am okay with that."

"There just isn’t enough time. There’s only what we manage to make of it—what we build, what we protect, what we remember to carry to the car. The gas mask. The snacks. The question we forgot to ask. The name of the person taken." My latest.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

So ICE shot a woman in Chicago today during a traffic jam. Supposedly because they realized she had a weapon but also because she was allegedly known to have been encouraging beople to harass and attack ICE agents. Uh huh. Sounds totally reasonable.

It's starting.

We are here because policing in the U.S. has been this way for generations. This is why ICE acts with impunity. They know they can act this way.

It’s your friendly neighborhood lawyer again with a Friday (fr this time) fun fact:

Law enforcement *don’t* have to read Miranda rights when they arrest you (that’s a law & order TV myth) - only *before* they question you *after* detaining you. Then you *have* to say you are asserting them & STFU

We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.

The president just gathered the highest ranking officers in the military to tell them that he may order them to kill American citizens -- and that they better follow his orders. All in response to a series of crises that have no basis in reality.

The fact that this is getting white disabled people riled is exactly why any disability movement that doesn't take intersectionality into account is bullshit. If talking about racism in disabled spaces angers you, you're part of the problem.

It's wild that me talking about the intersection between disability and race has so many white disabled people upset. I'm not minimizing your experience when I talk about the added struggles of being Black on top of being disabled. I face extra barriers. I'm allowed to talk about it.

Just read this EO, & wow!

The language is so vague that it can apply to any protest mvt from Code Pink to unions going on a strike. & you can bet your bottom dollars that it will

Never mind we don’t have a domestic terrorism law. This EO is a highway to oppress any, if not all, opposition mvts.

For the record, the local police had to arrive to free the girl from … the federal police.

This is horrific. It’s undeniable that we will need trials for ICE officials and officers after all this.
