Arrests the right has been calling unjust government overreach for 30+ years
Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, being led out of his cabin by an FBI agent who looks like a rancher. No tactical gear, just a cowboy hat, and jeans.
. The surrender of Randy Weaver, who was Ashli Babbitt before Ashli Babbitt. In a black and white photo, Weaver is holding his infant daughter and flanked by an FBI agent and aⁿ Idaho state trooper whom he appears to be holding hands with, though maybe they’re cuffed to each other. They’re all wearing jeans, and there’s some uniformed officers behind them. There are two people in the foreground, both civilians, one of them in his teens. The FBI agent is arresting a literal terrorist with what appears to be a cell phone on his belt, and a button-down, not a bunch of body armor.

Weaver sold automatic rifles to Nazis, and also a federal agent. He was small fry, but he got most of his family killed by entering a standoff with the Feds—he told his middle school aged sons to fire on federal officers. For whatever reason (president was a democrat/they love Nazis), republicans thought that this was egregious government overreach, something they couldn’t claim about the idiot in Oregon because we all saw the video of him pointing a gun at cops, and heard the audio clearly. This was impossible for Babbitt because she was surrounded by a bunch of other screaming terrorists, allowing them to create their own fantastic narrative.
.

He’s been really awesome so far! I’m so impressed.

Most of our press bends over backwards to be neutral, making it milquetoast center-right. editorial pages may have a variety of perspectives or may feature mostly right or left leaning views.

Bipartisanship refers to our legislature

Screaming “both sides are the same” is right wing propaganda

Newsmax has got to sting
karlykingsley.bsky.social
Media outlets from WaPo, NYT, AP, and CNN to Newsmax are refusing to sign the Pentagon’s new gag-order press policy in a rare moment of total bipartisan media unity. This is the way. We can have different ideologies, but we must have a free press.

My most strongly held belief is that that is what sent us all off into the worst timeline.

Eichmann is a solid choice for the Nazi regime as well, and I agree with you about PayPal, genius.

Someone else would have bought the rights to or invested in Tesla, like John Doerr. Sand Hill Road has about a million VCs. Or maybe we import electric cars from China or Europe, whatever. Cars suck.

Many of y'all have heard me say this, but my answer for the "within your own lifetime" variant of this question is that I have a detailed and practical plan to time travel back to replace my past self to set up the conditions such that PayPal never achieves success because that fixes SO MUCH

Over drinks with fellow archaeologists at a conference some decades ago, we discussed who we would hypothetically time travel to remove from history. Columbus and Calvin were the two universally chosen. Hitler was nearly unanimous but one person thought removing Goebbles was better.

ALSO. ALSO. Needing us to find Europeans who condemned him for his actions at the time--and there are many! So many! My God so many!--is also some white supremacist bullshit, because the TAINO PEOPLE HE WAS MURDERING CERTAINLY CONDEMNED HIM FOR IT AND THEY WERE HUMAN BEINGS OF HIS TIME TOO.

We know what changes we need to make. A lot of good can come out of this.

New Supreme Court, president isn’t immune, no-barrier abortion on demand in all 50 states, nonpartisan election maps, DC statehood, restore the Voting Rights Act, protect LGBTQ rights, enroll ERA, expand labor rights, etc

Even 🇸🇮 Tadej Pogacar can be beaten.

A day after winning Il Lombardia, he finished second in his own ‘Pogi Challenge’, unable to catch one amateur on the climb to Krvavec.

Seem to be ending every night this month reading some Twilight Zone comics.
The Twilight Zone #33 (1970). On the cover by George Wilson, a hunter is running away from three giant baboon heads, one of which seems to be shooting a laser beam at him with his eyes.

This is correct, though they also needed patrols to catch fugitive slaves and to enforce white supremacy in the South, which was majority Black by that time

Regardless, the militia would drill, and might store most arms in the town/city armory, rather than keep expensive, dangerous weapons at home

Yeah, soldiers in food lines on the news is bad, but O’Hare, Denver, DFW, Atlanta, LAX, LaGuardia, Dulles short-staffed…that’s utter chaos.

There’s already been thousands of cancelled flights. It’s going to affect cargo, too.

The third option is nonviolent resistance, and it’s much more likely to result in a successful democratic transition and consolidation.

This does seem to be a belief of a lot of reactionaries for centuries. Remember, a lot of modern conspiracy theories descend from the idea that the French Revolution was a Masonic/Illuminati/Jewish plot. Tsar Nicholas II believed every "real Russian" supported him unconditionally.

Nandor the Relentless

It's spooky season, which means it's time to post my favourite vampires...

This was done in watercolour and acryla gouache, quite small at 4x6" or so I think?
A small portrait of conqueror "Nandor the Relentless", in his battle armor.
