Air traffic Controllers in Chicago are not happy.

FYI - ATC has not been fully staffed for decades. You can blame Congress for that.

The writer Peter Matthiessen traveled the world looking for elusive snow leopards and rare cranes. But a new biography shows that the genuine self he was really seeking would be much harder to find, writes John Kaag:
A Warning for the Modern Striver
A new biography of Peter Matthiessen chronicles his many paradoxical attempts to escape who the world expected him to be.

Just finished this. An entirely entertaining account of post-war record setting distance flying, and its impact on commercial aviation.

Highly recommend for aviation buffs.

A great exchange at ALPA was when an audience member asked the AI panel if they’d considered the cost of AI (including environmental) & if it factored at all into their decision to use it. Not one had any idea how much using it cost, on any level. They were all kinda dumbfounded that he asked.

Imagine being a commercial pilot flying into JFK for the first time. 312 NOTAMS.

DXB, by comparison, has 21. HKG has 19.

Five pages in, I’m already delighted beyond reckoning and preemptively glaring at Consort, should he have the temerity to interrupt. Tomorrow’s @susanorlean.bsky.social’s pub date. You should get this book; if in LA, you should get it at @vromansbookstore.bsky.social.

Good morning from Bethel. I was here to cover a few cultural events, and am now covering the Western Alaska storm - damage, rescue and recovery efforts.

What questions do you have?

It just took a day to make it out, I think. (Even the NYT has it up, now.)

There’s so much news everyday. Honestly, it’s exhausting. (But that’s a whole other topic….)
