Probably the most damning thing about the planning of Bellwether is the massive widening of 26th St to carry trucks with dual-turn lanes everywhere, meanwhile the only rail spur has been unceremoniously cut off with no planned access. The City should have done much more to improve the plan
Mine too! But if your in-laws live there, it's pretty much uncool by definition, right?
This is the union that provided rubber stamps to make it easy for Buffalo voters to "write in" Byron Brown, against the Democratic candidate India Walton.
There are so many cool places we can get to by train that you can enjoy all of them before you ever need to use a car.

lmfao a VP of the NYC *transportation workers union* is telling people to vote against Zohran because he’s too tough on car owners

Also he was incompetent. His leadership was fear and incompetence. He drove every competent person away because he couldn’t stand anyone else getting credit for accomplishments.
In 1952 a gang of privileged thugs forced our government to provide "free" overnight parking, on streets maintained with tax money, for anyone who can afford a car. David Lombardo tries to get @andrewsrein.bsky.social to talk about that, but all he wants to talk about is people jumping turnstiles.
Yeah, they'd probably be just as upset to see the homeless people well taken care of as they are to see them in any other state. Just boundless cruelty and hatred.

The same car that ICE agents got into earlier on Canal and Church exited the cordoned off area around 26 Federal Plaza.

Despite NYPD's major efforts to crack down on license plate covers and other ghost cars, they didn't care when one drove right in front of their eyes.

As I've said, I actually support the limits on micromobility, but they have to be paired with ones that are the same or slower for cars. I've long called for 20 across the board on anything that moves in NYC. A system that vilifies ebikes and suggests we're more dangerous than cars is insane.

so glad Gov Hochul is pausing this project. highway expansions are just awful investments. Now let's put $ into improving rail west of the Hudson. How about double-tracking and electifying Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines? Re-activating other abandoned lines? @capntransit.bsky.social

We need real enforcement — and a plan.

Ours begins with bringing down the sheds that have been up on hundreds of City properties for more than 3 years.

And we'll prioritize investments in preventative maintenance to reduce the need for scaffolding in the first place.
This is awesome! I first learned about "the Baileys" from @naparstek.bsky.social telling us in 2007 how Schumer thought they would drive SUVs:

HUGE news from the Hudson Valley — the Route 17 expansion is on pause!

The Route 17 project would only save drivers 6 minutes and cost billions. Great to see this happen.

One cool thing about this bike lane is that it is reducing crossing distance on my corner and making it safer for me to cross Court Street, which I do approximately a million and one times every day.
Fresh paint on the Court Street bike lane. Gotta love it.

A controversial highway expansion in the Hudson Valley has been delayed after pushback from transportation planners and environmentalists, who argued that it isn’t necessary and would harm the local environment.

Sometimes I think about how absolutely wild it is that drivers think they're being oppressed when they get punished for breaking the law

so much in this city is built around "what if a homeless person used it" and all it does is make life worse for everyone!!!

Trolleybuses pull power directly into efficient, hill-climbing engines without need for massive, pavement-crushing batteries. Next gen trolleys with in-motion charging offer significant off-wire travel, allowing incremental wire extension. SF and Seattle partnering:

Five years after New York passed its landmark 2020 climate law, the state Department of Transportation is quietly undermining it as it expands highways, sidestep emissions reviews, and ignores the law’s equity mandate.
State DOT’s Highway Habit Ignores Emissions Mandate: Report - Streetsblog New York City
The state's highway-centric transportation agency is still flouting the 2020 state climate law, and is doing little to change course, according to a lawyers' group.
