Grateful to the Arroyo Vista Elementary Bike Bus for welcoming CalBike into the ride — and for my very cool new spoke card.
In a week marked by yet another refinery explosion, South Bay residents were reminded that the region’s dependence on oil doesn’t just pollute the air — it dictates how people move. www.calbike.org/how-south-ba...

The inevitable denouement of car culture: lonely guys talking to an AI woman as they sit in soul-crushing traffic on their way to a desk job behind the wheel of a vehicle they thought would make them cool and could survive the apocalypse.

A sharrow on a 40 mph truck route!
Lomita Blvd is a designated bike route with no bike facilities on this section other than a Bike Route sign sharing a pole with a speed limit 40 mph sign and Torrance Transit bus stop sign. No bus stop bench but there ia a trash can
Very wide 4 lane road and a narrow sidewalk. Green signs say, Bike Route Begin
Over the next 9 months, representatives from public health, transportation, and advocacy will work together to create updated guidance, policy recommendations, and educational resources for this rapidly changing landscape.
CalBike is launching the California Independent Electric Mobility Council, a first-of-its-kind statewide working group.
The popularity of e-bikes and other small electric devices has surged in recent years, while policies have struggled to keep pace. Cities are left scrambling, riders are caught in the middle, and piecemeal rules don’t address the bigger questions of safety, education, and access.

When the designer and engineer and the whole construction team has never used a bike lane for anything but double-parking…
good morning to the bike lane big finish designers

Most Americans actually want bike lanes — the data just caught up.

Thanks to YouGov for the data.

On September 9, the U.S. Department of Transportation canceled grants for bike lanes and safer intersections because they were “hostile to motor vehicles.” That language reveals more than bias it exposes a belief that safety itself is a threat to the status quo. www.calbike.org/dots-dead-en...

DYK that the nighttime fatality rate on U.S. roadways is three times higher than the daytime rate, and 76% of pedestrian fatalities occur at night? Visit the FHWA for more nighttime visibility for safety resources: www.fhwa.dot.gov/innovation/e... #PedestrianSafetyMonth

Same thing here - took going to the Van Nuys office in person for me.
The future of “self-driving” isn’t about hype or investor slides. It’s about what happens when a child on a bike swerves near the curb.

If companies want to market autonomy, they should prove publicly that their systems protect vulnerable road users.

One of the biggest things we want readers to take away from “Life After Cars” is that learning to *see* cars is step one on the path to realizing a better world.
I was walking down a street in New York and I thought how lovely it was, with the trees and the light. Tried to take a photo and this came out. It’s incredible how blind we become to the ugliness of cars. They really do mess things up. Yet somehow we manage to filter them out.
