Literally the only way to pitch "You can watch [movie] with [actor]" is to just say "deepfake porn". But we have to dance around that given that it's a kind of sexual assault. But that's the only thing it's good for. So maybe we don't need it at all

Was doing a crossword from last week and the answer to this was ‘obese’, and I simply don’t think we can know that that’s true without a better understanding of typical Hutt physiology
‘Like sci-fi’s Jabba the Hutt

I felt that this had to surely be a joke. That it couldn't possibly be what was actually said in the interview.

But my niggling doubt had me check and sure enough...

It happened to me: I got an ad for a retailer selling Warcraft 2 graphic t-shirts but then I clicked through and they only had Warcraft 3 graphic t-shirts 😔

I can never remember anything that would be useful in daily life but I still have my primary school friends’ home phone numbers easily accessible in my brain

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Unrelated but iTunes gift cards are currently in short supply at local retailers

Was reading about Japanese holdout soldiers on Wikipedia today, and the guy that stayed in the Philippines til the ‘70s is generously described as “conducting guerilla activities”, the scant detail of which sounds a lot like he was just stealing food and murdering the occasional civilian

This is very dire and I feel like Ian Dickson should have more dignity than these. But also, is Love Island Australia/The Block a crossover show or have these two just both been on both. Also are they twins or clones?
Section of the quoted image showing Josh and Luke, two very similar looking white men both subtitled 'Love Island/The Block'

Anyway, everyone's always like "we need to fund the humanzees to counter the influence of the tech industry" but when I post actual humanzee content, it's crickets

Who among us hasn't had our dreams of a human-ape hybrid frustrated by the untimely death of our sperm-producing orang-utan, and subsequent exile to Soviet Kazakhstan?
"In 1929, he attempted to organize a set of experiments involving nonhuman ape sperm and human volunteers, but was delayed by the death of his last orangutan. The next year, he fell under political criticism from the Soviet government and was sentenced to exile in the Kazakh SSR; he worked there at the Kazakh Veterinary-Zootechnical Institute and died of a stroke two years later."

Likely thing for a capuchin to assert
From the Wikipedia entry for Humanzee:

"The possibility of hybrids between humans and other apes has been entertained since at least the medieval period; Saint Peter Damian (11th century) claimed to have been told of the offspring of a human woman who had mated with a non-human ape, and so did Antonio Zucchelli, an Italian Franciscan capuchin friar who was a missionary in Africa from 1698 to 1702, and Sir Edward Coke in "The Institutes of the Lawes of England"

There was a recent tweet to the effect of "the true generational divide is older people who see a video and question why it isn't text, and younger people who see text and question why it isn't a video"

(everything should be text)

You're displaying on your front page... an image which looks like an ornate vase. Then when you go into it, you see that the negative space is comprised of two human faces in profile... Can I ask you to explain why this is on your front page?

Miners to get an early look at Labor’s new green laws

Tom Rabe
WA political correspondent
Oct 12, 2025 – 3.26pm

The Albanese government will give mining companies and other stakeholders draft extracts of its environmental protection laws before they go to parliament, as Environment Minister Murray Watt tries to rebuild trust after earlier negotiations on the reforms collapsed in acrimony.
