I’ve heard that one a million times before! “Why not just put the bike lane somewhere that is complete inconvenient for cyclists and doesn’t actually make anyone safer?

"We are pro-bikes. We just think this is a really bad idea."

It's like NIMBY Mad Libs! As we write in the book, it's actually somewhat encouraging that bike lane opponents can't come up with new things to say.
Brooklyn neighbors fear new bike lanes on busy McDonald Avenue will be dangerous
Windsor Terrace neighbors are growing concerned the city's plan to redesign the busy four-lane corridor with bike lanes will make it less safe.

Totally makes sense! And it's wild how the simplest explanation is just too impossible to believe for these folks.

Haha. How could I forget?

I literally had this argument with someone I know. They thought the college kids had to have been getting help from someone to get their tents and I was like, “Um, I think they all just sent a friend to the clearance section at REI.”
brooklynspoke.bsky.social
And this isn’t limited to people on the right. A lot of centrists saw the pro-Palestinian protesters all using the same tents on college campuses and concluded that they must have been bankrolled by monied interests.

It’s hilarious how something simple like “people are sharing Amazon links to buy the same costumes” gets filtered through these conspiratorial grifters’ minds and becomes “They are highly organized.”

This is why the costumes are honestly brilliant. Ngo, who has never said a truthful thing in his entire life (remember the concrete milkshake?) now has to convince people inflatable Sesame Street and animal costumes are violent terrorists.

Sometimes you just need an image too silly to demonize.

Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

The film "NO" about the plebiscite that took down Pinochet has definitely influenced my advocacy. The lesson was, if you seem fun and upbeat, even in very serious times, the public is much more likely to stand with you.

These folks are doing it right!

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

Agreed. Kinda need to treat it like the early JSK years when she and her team thought they wouldn’t have that much time. Only this time do it with concrete and quality materials.

When I'm DOT Commissioner under Mayor Mamdani I'll declare that plastic deliniators should only be used to mark the layout of forthcoming street redesign projects, not as "protection."

A big thing we need from @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is the ability to finally and quickly move beyond temp materials to beautifully built-out streets. Procurement reform, better agency coordination, etc. No more paint and plastic, please.

This was always going to be a tough sell, but they also didn't promote it. n of 1, but this is one of my favorite Broadway musicals and I had no idea the movie was out this weekend.
