Windows 10 goes out of support today. My fave useless fact about w10 is that the iconic blue desktop background is a *photograph* - not CGI.

Tiny 'making of' vid here - youtu.be/_2RacX9DgWM...
Three images showing photographers in a studio, standing around a black curtained area with a projector and a 'Windows' logo etched onto a glass pane. The lower image shows a version of the iconic blue windows background, with blue lasers outlining and passing through an angled Windows logos against a dark background.

The PlayStation2 does something similar to the GameCube where it renders a frame internally (often at 512x448) and in 480p mode it will scale it to 640x448 with what I believe is bilinear filtering.

This is one reason why 480p games often look kind of blurry on the edges of objects.
A screenshot from Sonic Unleashed for PS2, taken over HDMI from a RetroGEM-modded PlayStation2 Phat. There is a clear ghosting at areas of sharp contrast like these windows, a sign that some kind of interpolation has been used.

To illustrate the difference, God of War II has a special "high resolution mode." This changes the internal width from 512 scaled to 640 to a true 640 (technically 639 for some reason).

Screens with Alt Text attached.
Standard 512x448, scaled to 640x448 in 480p mode, taken in PCSX2. The former screen, zoomed in. Note, again, the ghosting/blurring in areas of high contrast. God of War II in its "high resolution mode." Here the game renders in true 639x448 and is not scaled from a lower resolution. The former screenshot, zoomed in for clarity. Note the lack of ghosting and the sharper edges around models. The letters also look less orange since the colors aren't being blended together.

i bring women kissing to your TL but more explicit this time
an artwork by Spindle of the characters Felt (on the left), a rabbitfolk woman with reddish pink hair, sitting and kissing Nanami (on the right), while holding her penis in her hand. Nanami (a Wyrn trans woman (Wyrns are very distant species tangentially related to Wyverns) is on her knees, above Felt, kissing her back and grabbing her breast.

On the top left of the artwork is a stylized chibi version of Nanami and Felt (respectively), Nanami is leaning on her arms smiling, and Felt's head is leaning on her hands, equally as happy

my problem is that i get to a point in a game where i think it's "important" to finish it, and then i need to be "in the mood" to play it, the mood doesn't come and i open a new game just for fun, enjoy it, keep playing it instead of the old one, think it's "important to finish", the cycle continues

the typo was unintentional, but i'll allow it. anyway, the PS1 version of Chamber of Secrets was a fun game. it had a hilarious pirate localization couped with that PS1 jank, 👍

i played Spider-Man 2 about 3 times, but it's Kinda Bad ig. i know the consoles had a good version, i'll get to it someday

if a game is bad, i drop it, so going through the list of finished games, i can't say there's a truly bad game in it. maybe a few tie-in games that were boring even for a teenager. something like Harry Pooter 4. hell, even Spider-Man 2 on PC is not so bad that it should be named the worst i played.

What's the worst game you finished/rolled credits on?

(games media folks, it can't be something you were assigned to review; this has to be something you subjected yourself to of your own free will)

not-so-awesome possum then :(

if this is the face of someone forced to repay it..

i was like, well, it's a normal-looking DS game so far! then, running costs HP?? that made me frown

In addition to being one of my favorite games, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1, 1997) is also one of the most cooperative photography subjects. Very easy to work with. Effortless. What a beauty. I wish every game were this photogenic.

Richter Belmont, seemingly under the influence of some malicious magic spell, unleashes a kung fu werewolf and a shotokan minotaur to attack our hero Alucard. They go absolutely ape shit with special attacks, and Alucard leaps into the fray. In a twisted nightmare prison depicting the lynching death of Alucard's mother, an evil succubus spreads her leathery bat wings and prepares to attack Alucard after he thoughtfully dispels her magical ruse. Her rude titties and clam are out, but Alucard is unfazed. Nothing he hasn't seen before. After defeating the parasitic corpse demon Legion, Alucard takes a moment to gather his thoughts amidst thousands of human skulls. His faithful faerie companion rests on his shoulder, knee-highs kicked out playfully. Finally Alucard confronts Richter Belmont in Dracula's throne room, having solved the mystery of Castlevania. Wearing special goggles, Alucard can see the mysterious green orb, actually the Dark Priest Shaft, that is controlling Richter.

well, it's good that they improved it. the thing it'd cause is overheating, not straight up failure like shorts on laptop motherboards with liquid metal

"While you were asleep, the Grand Inquisitor came" Crazy Dracula for the game boy color. crt tv rgb. mGBA on Wii 240p dracula looking over one of his many stone rooms, with skeletons lying about. there are.. people under the floor, looking up through the bars? damn, that's dark. cute game over screen. it's night time behind the castle walls and a metal fence, on a hill there's a grave with "RIP" on the tombstone. a bat spreads out its wings on top of it. more bats are flying in as a large moon shines just behind the bat.

In this clip of a 1995 Computer Chronicles, we not only get some lovely showcases of the PS1 and Saturn, but also brutal honesty from Stewart as he considers console vs PC gaming.

"It's nice to know when you come home from the store having just spent $50 on a new game, it'll work."
