Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”

I want a pedal steel so badly, but they’re so much more expensive than lap steels, not to mention so much more complicated. Then again, hitting a pedal to get a voicing has got to be easier than slanting your bar and muting strings. I’m not sure I’ll ever be confident playing slanted bar chords.

If you’re a guitarist and feel like you’re stuck in a rut, pick up a cheap lap steel, and you may find that it resets your brain enough to make things feel new again. But be braver than me, and start off with the C6 tuning, rather than trying to figure it out later.

What has helped me a lot is a steel tuning scale and chord chart app. You tell it what tuning you’re using and what scale and/or chord you’re trying to play, and it displays the grid of potential notes available at every fret. I needed to visualize the intervals to start playing intuitively.

I’ve owned lap steels for close to 30 years, but could never get the hang of the traditional C6 tuning and steel fingerpicks until recently. The tuning in particular breaks my brain, but sounds so sweet when you figure it out. Such a spooky instrument.

Pretty much every pop band in the late seventies was disco adjacent for a minute, and many even pulled off some genuine classics of the genre. I’ve heard many serious veteran house DJs drop the Stones’ Miss You into a set

ABBA had some great songs, but it does make me sad that so many people think that’s what disco was. They’re a great pop band, but within disco there are much better examples of that genre done properly.

The only thing that anyone ever needs to know about Bill Ackman is that he once joined a group of avid long distance bikers from NYC to Montauk and back without training or preparation, arrogant in his ability to "lead the pack" and ended up screaming in agony

The others fell in behind, at first struggling to keep up with the alpha leader. But soon enough Ackman faltered—at Mile 32, Ackman recalls—and fell way behind the others. He was clearly “bonking,” as they say in the cycling world, which is what happens when a rider is dehydrated and his energy stores are depleted.

While everyone else rode back to Loeb’s East Hampton mansion, one of Loeb’s friends, David “Tiger” Williams, a respected cyclist and trader, painstakingly guided Ackman, who by then could barely pedal and was letting out primal screams of pain from the cramps in his legs, back to Bridgehampton. “I was in unbelievable pain,” Ackman recalls. As the other riders noted, it was really rather ridiculous for him to have gone out so fast, trying to lead the pack, considering his lack of training. Why not acknowledge your limits and set a pace you could maintain? As one rider notes, “I’ve never had an experience where someone has gone from being so aggressive on a bike to being so hopelessly unable to even turn the pedals…. His mind wrote a check that his body couldn’t cash.”

This is actually very smart of him because decriminalization is not legalization and indeed many sex work advocates will tell you legalization is often bad and exploitative (see: Nevada brothels)

This needs context.
Despite Cuomo's accusation to the contrary, Mamdani has stressed that he has never supported legalizing prostitution. That said, as a member of the State Legislature, he has repeatedly sponsored bills that would remove criminal penalties for adults 18 or older who buy or sell sex.
His campaign has indicated that he broadly supports decriminalizing sex work, but he has not said whether he still favors decriminalization legislation that he sponsored as recently as last year, while he was running for mayor. A spokeswoman for his campaign said a Mamdani administration would focus on combating sex trafficking and invest in organizations that help victims, and would "facilitate alternative career paths" for current and former sex workers.
