Like, a whole lot of people have chosen to ignore that out there in the world, the onus of responsibility rests on those piloting multi-ton vehicles through our streets, not those outside them. No amount of safety vests and lighting can protect someone from a driver glancing at their phone.
benharris1.bsky.social
It also ignores the reality that “I didn’t see them” nearly always means “I wasn’t looking.” Because if visibility and “being seen” was the solution, we wouldn’t see daytime crashes and fatalities. And yet.

Seeing some of the responses to this is really reinforcing how car brained we’ve become. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility” only works in an environment where the parties inflicting the harm and the parties being harmed isn’t so asymmetrical. Otherwise, you’re just victim-blaming.

Counterpoint: Pedestrians should be able to wear whatever they choose and not worry about the risk of being run over, injured or killed by a driver.

Hey Marylanders! Darker evenings don’t mean more danger on our roads. Just a little extra caution — bright clothes, headlights on — can make a huge difference.

Let’s keep each other safe. Be the difference!

So the ultimate use of the technology upon which our teetering economy is based is as a porn bot?

It was always headed here, wasn’t it?

What do you have against free markets and civil liberties, huh?

Worth noting that this article is from nearly four months ago. I’d wager the subscriber numbers are likely *worse* today, given the massive talent exodus that has taken place since then.

I assume the recommendation here is “turn it off”.

On the one hand, it’s good I guess to demonstrate how wasteful, costly and frivolous this all is.

On the other, we should never accept the framing that it is acceptable to deploy federal troops to address crime.

NEW: Reuters took a closer look at violent crime in D.C. after President Trump began a show of force here. Despite the big investment of federal resources, it's really hard at this point to see any dramatic changes.

The White House says crime has dropped in D.C. during Trump's deployment here. But the comparison they use is to last year, and the level of violent crime was already a lot lower this year before the federal government sent in troops.

This morning I was filming ICE abducting sometime in Petworth. One of the agents told me "the last US citizen that did this he put in cuffs all the way to the courtroom".

See, now that I would actually eat. But the bigger issue for me is that I really don’t tend to eat big breakfasts. I’m often fine with a coffee and a scone, and I’m good till lunch.

I’m more half Irish. Don’t need to start my day with beans and blood sausage tbh.

The big story in Ireland last week was a major presidential candidate forced to exit the race because 16 years ago he overcharged a tenant €3,000 in rent and didn’t repay it.

I’ll admit it was nice to spend time in a country where political shame still exists, even if that is small time AF.
