(the Great Games Recommendation Thead, part 3, only another 500 plus games to go, you bastards)

201: Brindlewood Bay. Incredible game of improvised deduction where you are the Golden Girls but investigating a Cthulhoid murder cult in a small town through Monk-style quicky/cosy stories.

One of the claimants in this case ks quite… something. Yes. Quite a few jaw-dropping bits in this where it gets even more startling

"they've always been like this" is always a tempting savvy take but it is just not true that Republican staffers were 100 percent open Nazis back in 2004, or hell even 2014. they just weren't
michaelcaley.bsky.social
there have been a lot of responses to this arguing that young Republicans were motivated by such feelings but didn't express them openly

and I think a crucial lesson of the Trump era is that there is great value in people not expressing these things openly! that's a big and decisive change!

For those tempted to say Young Republicans have always been this way, they really have not. When I worked on campus and did bipartisan college events after, they were very much not like this.

That’s why groups like YCT and eventually TPUSA formed — because Young Republicans weren’t radical enough.

Bari Weiss launched her own path to stardom with the argument "it is oppression to dislike me for being bad" and now we will get to see what an entire media ecosystem built with that philosophy looks like

Every angry screed about how Biden blew it just does not acknowledge the whole reason Biden was unpopular was because he did the exact economic policy they claimed to want instead of pummeling the workers with austerity until Doordash servants worked for pennies and Subway footlongs were $5 again.

I had to look these people up and well, I guess the whole thing is summarized by this

On 19 February 2023, Fred Phelps Jr, pastor of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in America, said that though he supported Burke's position, he felt he had "gone too far".

The NHS is changing trans people back to birth sex on file, meaning we will not be treated appropriately for our bodies.

This is deadly, completely unacceptable, and the result of hateful far right ideology in our politics and healthcare.

Just got a call from a lovely but very nervous Dr, who advised I wouldn't be routinely screened for breast cancer because I'm not indicated as being "biologically female" on the central NHS database and my biology wouldn't indicate I'm at risk.

My records have been altered, which is upsetting.

This is the result of a lot of people pretending racism is one of the greatest taboos in our culture while failing to address racism substantively. People are appalled by the idea of being called racist while being totally committed to upholding racism throughout society.

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

incidentally an amusing thing once you're aware of it is that American writers, especially non-fiction writers, who *don't* want to come across as weird about other people's looks - a good thing! - usually resort to describing their hair and clothes instead.
