All kinds of diners dot the region, but it’s low-tech, high-spirited charm that powers Bob’s, set up in a stainless-steel 1947 Jerry O’Mahony diner car beside Leverington Cemetery in Roxborough. Everything inside and out is old-timey classic: the cornflower-blue curtains, the well-worn Formica counter, the thigh-high swivel stools, and, yes, the now-lumpy booths. It’s here you’ll find 48-year Bob’s veteran Trisha Harder — never without a coffee pot in hand, proferring refills — taking orders on her notepad, not an iPad. She’ll drop the ticket to the cook (probably Jim Evans, who’s owned Bob’s for 30 years), whose flattop and pans pump out the diner’s signatures, like the overstuffed vegetable omelets, crispy home fries, four different kinds of sausage, and enormous Mickey Mouse pancakes with fresh fruit cooked right into the batter. Yeah, things aren’t going so well here in PA either. Sure, rural areas don’t care about fucking over transit, but how are they letting this happen to schools? It’s not just inner-city schools that are hurting.

I know the headline everyone's running with is "erotica" but "we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues" and "we are putting personality back in ChatGPT so it will act like a friend" are diametrically opposed statements

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Honestly, it needs to go further than this.

We need to confront the fact that democracy and wealth hoarding cannot coexist. Allowing people to amass the resources of a small state/country allows them to act as such, which is inimical to a shared society of “one person, one vote.”
