Right, I have read the three published witness statements closely, and...

...well.

I have spotted some rather interesting points.

I may also have worked out how the CPS thought the evidential test was somehow met at charging stage but not on the eve of prosecution.

Post will be up about 10am.

It’s striking what a professional job Matt Collins did in these witness statements. The first describes in forensic detail the threat from Chinese intelligence operations and how this was ‘prejudicial to the safety or interests of the state’. 1/2 www.gov.uk/government/p...

With a fiscal “groundhog day” of discussions about how the Chancellor could keep meeting her fiscal rules for the second time this year, we were wondering: what are the chances we could be doing all this again in Spring? The answer: pretty high. Particularly nerdy thread:

The China spying case

The PM has published the witness statements as promised yesterday.

Definitely worth reading through them...the first statement is by far the longest.

Some interesting revelations. But nothing suggests to me that the current government has done anything wrong.

Experts are such a drag! You propose a nice simple answer to a big problem and they’re all like “that approach has been tried many times and invariably failed” and “the problem is more complex than that” and “what about the disastrous unintended consequences?” and blah blah blah.

Q: “Most hospitals + people who will lose insurance are in rural areas. If Trump & Republicans are so intent on sticking it to their own voters, why not let them?”

Over on the the old bird app people seem to be claiming that girls can’t like Star Wars which is totally ridiculous. I like it so much I even grow the “Star Wars” dahlia! Take that guys 😝😂 🌱 #StarWars

🌱 Good picture/bad picture. Happy to catch this beauty even though the lighting is harsh and the background is weird.
Fritillary butterfly fully open among orange cosmos. Some drying stuff mixed in, and a pole section with weirdly wrapped hardware cloth that, though ugly, does nothing to deter squirrels from climbing up to the birdfeeder (not shown.) A section of brick wall in the background with a pattern of leaf shadows on it.

The simple fact is that the Government is going to have to find a way of rebuilding local government finances systematically. The decay of public realm and social infrastructure is deeply corrosive of public trust. Everyday, people can see the state not working all around them.

Neurologically speaking, there's no such thing as 'useless' subjects or 'rip-off' degrees

Insisting we should only teach useful subjects is like saying science should only do research that gives positive results

If you honestly believe that's how anything works, *your* education was the wasted one
