My poor puppy. All he wants to do is sleep under the covers curled up behind my knees. But I spend half the night in a slow motion alligator death roll and the other half restlessly awake and changing sleep venues. And yet he perseveres - wherever I briefly settle he will burrow in and find his spot
I’m not gonna make it until the end of October without turning on the heating, am I? Maybe I’ll just bake constantly instead…
I’m like first to get on board with Americans are stupid and backwards but this ain’t it. Try an article about how we refuse to adopt the bidet instead.
This half stupid and half wrong. I have and use a peppermill, tea towels, and a kettle like everyone else I know.

I don’t have a crepe pan, tortilla press, or tagine. When I want those things I get them from people better at making them than I. I don’t have a moka because I prefer French press.
When I was a kid I’d never seen an electric kettle until we started spending time in Canada. None of my friends had them. Now I’d say most Americans I know have them.
The United States literally invented the electric kettle. We don't use it much because we don't drink tea and have other devices to heat water.
This article is interesting mainly for blowing your mind as to how Americans don’t use the most basic of kitchen items like tea towels, a kettle, a pepper mill, etc 🀯

Remember, the pretext for war with Venezuela is as bullshit as β€œRemember the Maine” in the Spanish American War, the Gulf of Tonkin β€œincident” in Vietnam, and β€œSaddam has a WMD program” in 2003.

All of it was bullshit.

That’s $500 million lost per day
Every $1 invested in SNAP generates $1.80 in local economic activity. Without SNAP, that will mean a loss of $15 billion to the US economy just in November alone.
Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.
I’m actually not sure she CAN go work with people who have the slightest respect for her…
It’s pretty messed up as our people get poorer and can’t afford healthcare or food that we’re still screeching this are the world instead of considering adopting social beneficial policies.
Many Americans think this. The indoctrination into the idea that the U.S. is the Greatest Country in the World and that without us democracy around the world would fall starts EARLY. And other countries take advantage of our strength. Which is basically how we ended up electing the current asshole.

SNAP is not just for the unemployed.

It’s for anyone who’s living below the poverty line, which sadly includes a lot of people who are working full time jobs.

But here’s the thing… even if it were β€œjust” for the unemployed… they still deserve food!

No one deserves to starve.

I don't think "SNAP is a subsidy to low wage employers" frame is useful or correct. It implies that, if SNAP did not exist, these companies would be forced to pay workers more when the actual situation is that low wage workers would get the same wages from these employers as now but be poorer
Nope. Although I don’t know the exact mechanism through which the October payments went out even though we were shutdown.

Our state even sent a notice saying if you have October SNAP balance left on your card on Nov 1 the card might not work so to make sure to spend it all!
Depends on the state but usually monthly. In our state people get it different dates of the month depending on first letter of the last name.

Workers lining up for food banks likely has more to do with missed paychecks so what we don’t need to spend on food we can use for things like mortgage, gas.

I wish they said explicitly that there's $5 billion in emergency reserves they're refusing to use instead they're happy to let people - mostly children, the disabled, and elderly, starve.

Take a lesson from the Black Panthers who understood how to feed people
If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

For Natives in more rural areas, there are food distribution centers for commodities which low-income Natives rely on because they are situated in food deserts. These centers will also NOT be distributing food, so this isn't just a scatter of individuals in need but entire communities.

Rand Paul: "In the one instance you're killed on sight. On the other instance, if you're captured, we just say, 'Oh well, we're gonna send you back to your country.' It doesn't make any sense."

Did you know that over 1.3M active duty service members and veterans rely on SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families?

Now you know.
Mine actually managed to be not the Worst but I am definitely going to crash early. Hope you made it through as well!
Well, I am apparently not going to back to sleep so I guess I’ll start my day. At 4 am. On a Sunday. And I can’t even blame the time change because ours is next week.
