Save this for posterity. When the end of the world is near, get your loved ones close, hug them, say all the things you’ve always wanted to say, and then watch this on a loop

A few years ago I wrote a book about the Ealing Studios classic portmanteau horror film Dead of Night, released in 1945. To mark its 80th anniversary, STUDIOCANAL will release a new 4K version on October 20th. If you haven’t seen this film, correct that deficit immediately.

We have Bronze Age axes in the museum collection, and I always think of Red Shift when I see them.

Alan Garner's Bronze Age shovel - found in the Alderley Edge copper mines in 1875, rediscovered by Alan in a dusty cupboard under his Primary School's stage, and since radiocarbon dated to 1750BC. One of many treasures in Manchester Museum - now massively revamped & European Museum of the Year.

1. Mr Fisher from Robin Redbreast (1970).
Catchphrase: “The study of religions is one of my many interests.”
You’ll need:

Probably a generational thing too? I suspect the pie and pea supper is no longer on offer in pubs.

Yes. Is this possibly just a northern thing? Pie and pea supper and all that.

Today marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

This year, it comes as the UK is about to pass a law guaranteeing the right to bereavement leave for miscarriage, making us one of only 4 countries in the world to offer it.

My heart is with everyone who experiences the heartbreak of baby loss.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

I saw him play Falstaff, so many years ago, when it was exciting to see actors off the telly onstage. And I always loved his voice which sounded and felt so familiar.
