Unconditional support for the Israeli government is counterproductive for both countries. If Trump can get tough, why not Congress and every potus? The Israel right-or-wrong position AIPAC, right-wing Christians, and some US Jews have held is no longer unassailable. open.substack.com/pub/contrari...

Two separate internal reports at State and USAID found that Israel violated Section 620i of the Foreign Assistance Act and that at least 800m in military assistance to Israel should have been immediately suspended. That is the law.

Why does no one read the law
diplomatofnight.com
Arms Export Act and Foreign Assistance Acts both have provisions which explicitly state that the president has an obligation to suspend military assistance to a country impeding the delivery of humanitarian aid. The way the administration avoided this was by finding that Israel wasn't doing that.

There has been a genocide, stopped temporarily by regional leaders and especially by Trump, who all know very well that its full-scale continuation was fermenting a worldwide mass mobilisation that put at risk their own rule at home. Lapid referring to protests in ally countries is significant.

This shameful Israeli propaganda will be repeated ad nauseam.

This is why those banking on the Israeli "opposition" convince very few...

Yair Lapid, head of Israel's opposition:

"Those who demonstrated against Israel in London, Rome, Paris... were deceived by propaganda... The truth is, there was no genocide, no intentional starvation."

Of all the subjects to defend Biden on, his conduct with Israel is the most fucking baffling.

He's either an idiot, evil, or an evil idiot. Sorry dawg, no other choices and most of your "actually he did his best" arguments are secretly arguing for options 1 or 3.

Biden dead enders in my replies are now arguing that Biden actually had to lie to protect Israel because if he didn't the supreme court would have pulled foreign policy out of the hands of the executive

North Americans spent 20 years yelling at each other half-understood soundbites from sociology class but fundamentally that has still failed to stop them from actually understanding what "race isnt real" actually means.

Anyway all of this is to say this is why I do not say Israel is white supremacism because that is not the basis of the state in any really accurate sense. There are often alliances of ideological convenience between Zionist and white supremacist but Israel is a Jewish supremacist state.

In fact if apartheid as a term was only applicable in cases like America then the original case in which the term was used would not qualify since the Afrikaner and white racial regime in South Africa attempted to subdivide the underclasses in more than one sense.

This is also why arguments against the term apartheid's applicability on the basis that Israel's regime of control over Palestinians does not constitute a racial one all fall flat, because race is a construct and there are infinite ways to construct it as a result. The US's way is only one way.

And in fact all racialized structures are arbitrary, they're just not necessarily on the axis of skin color. In the case of Israel it is on the axis of Jewishness vs non-Jewishness. This is why the Mizrahi, or "Arab Jew" and the Ethiopian or "Black Jew" both are advantaged over all non-Jews.

Indeed. The issue is not "Jews are white and Palestinians are brown" the issue is the state of Israel, defined constitutionally as a Jewish state in its political, legal, and social character is as a result explicitly exclusionary and creates 2nd and 3rd tiers of life. It is racial, just arbitrary.

What it means is quite literally that you can, in fact, find people of physical traits you wouldn't expect in almost every ethnic group in the world. There are Saudis who are natural blondes and Finns whose grandparents were all born there who are remarkably swarthy. It just happens.

Liberal theory of foreign policy in MENA in general it seems. Maybe one day they'll grow up. I genuinely hope so.

Biden was forced to do that. OK he wasn't forced but he did it because he needed to. OK he didn't need to he did it because he wanted to, but why are you mad about that? You shouldn't talk about this ever again and also you shouldn't work to ensure it doesn't happen with next POTUS. I am smart.

Basically my entire politics. I am interested in your liberalism if it's liberalism that takes liberalism seriously but I can't consider it to be such a thing if there is some racial exemptions made simply for the benefit of your preferred group in MENA. This is what liberalism in the US does.

I do not oppose liberalism as a camp per se I oppose their exceptionalization vis a vis Israel

Interesting how many people on here have genuinely baited themselves into thinking of Qatar as a "sponsor of Hamas". I don't really get where this came from and it simply is not true. Do people not get what meditation is?
