You see the same cycle whenever we're chided for not giving a comedian or a ballplayer a "second chance" when they never apologized for the first chance. What has changed? Nothing? An insignificant amount of time passed and nothing else? That's not how this works!

I’m not even asking for a mention of repairing harm or what have you, I understand that is a far cry from these people. But at very least saying this is dumb but eliding the apology part of it is just gross, it’s just normalizing nazism (like, literally! directly!)

I think what annoys me most whenever this happens (aside from calling adults “kids”) is diminishing the significance with absolutely no mention of even an apology, or why it was wrong.

I am a teacher. Kids say dumb stuff all the time, yes. Then: you make them apologize. That is like, the key step

Did something bad happen with Twitter in the last two days? I rarely go there anymore, I didn’t know if there was new news or something? It feels like there’s been an uptick in dialogue about it being awful

I was talking to a teacher friend today who said that once, 14 years ago, early in the school-year they wondered if a student plagiarized an extremely well-written essay, so they had them handwrite a new one. It was spot on excellent—they actually HAD written it. In other words,

What D’Angelo said Black Messiah means. It came out at the end of 2014 and it was so needed.
Article (Nolan Feeney; TIME) excerpt reads: “Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can be misunderstood. Many will think it's about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I'm calling myself a Black Messiah. For me, the title is about all of us. It's about the world. It's about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah.

It's about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and in every place where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen, D'Angelo writes in a statement about the album It's not about praising one charismatic leader but celebrating thousands of them. Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are), but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape there these songs can live to the fullest. Black Messiah is not one man. It's a feeling that, collectively, we are all that leader.”

“D’Angelo’s First Album in 14 Years Is Finally Here, and It’s Surprisingly Timely” via TIME.
