A gentle reminder that paranoid delusions are a real, serious, and deeply understudied public health issue. Reducing these harms to “ChatGPT” oversimplifies the problem and does a disservice both to the discourse and to the people affected.

Open AI, Microsoft sued over ChatGPT's alleged role in fueling man's "paranoid delusions" before murder-suicide in Connecticut
The suit alleges the artificial intelligence chatbot intensified a man's "paranoid delusions" and helped direct them at his mother before he died by suicide.

I think it’s significant and understudied that in half of US states the state capital is not the largest city, and it’s very normalized for these to be different places, which is not at all the norm internationally

one of the more subtly annoying things about ppl like dr oz and rfk jr is that they love to hang their hats on autoimmune and inflammation because its understudied and frankly hard to disentangle at the moment. to some extent its biomedical dark matter

New preprint led by @annaschreck.bsky.social that capitalized on the wealth of publicly available 18S rRNA datasets to explore the oceanic distribution and diversity of understudied anaerobic ciliates. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
A meta-analysis of environmental sequencing data reveals the global distribution and hidden diversity of marine anaerobic ciliates
Anaerobic protists are diverse, ecologically important members of anoxic microbial communities, acting as grazers, nutrient cyclers, and partners in multi-domain associations, yet remain understudied ...

i thought Wiles came across as *remarkably* understudied and incurious in the Vanity Fair interviews. Her perspective feels very passive even when talking about events that she had the power to shape.

Check out our preprint!! So many cool analyses you can do with public rDNA datasets. Especially if you work with understudied groups or habitats!

I was actually interviewed by a journalist on this subject, for a fairly prominent American publication, due to my background in HoI4 mod development. The article didn’t make it past the editor, unfortunately, and the subject is badly understudied imo.

Our paper reflecting on 30 years of Medicaid estate recovery is fully out today! We shed light on policy mechanisms, state variation, and its potential to drive wealth disparities. Thank you to @jhppl.bsky.social for being the perfect home for our work on this understudied, but longstanding, policy.

Just had confirmation that my chapter Digital fan engagement in Latin American Football has been accepted for the book The Palgrave Handbook of Digital Latin American Studies. It’s basically a review of the field of a much understudied aspect of fan practices

8/ live neutrophil immune cell testing. Together, these projects mark a transformative advance: bringing the study of persistent infection and neuroinflammation - the most understudied but important topics in ME/CFS - to the forefront, thus opening pathways to new diagnostics and treatments.

Yes bc ppl by default have the mindset that drugs exacerbate schizophrenia so it's understudied since they don't wanna test it xd

I don't want to say outright it's understudied but in a brief bit of research I did for a bibliography it wasn't the easiest in the world to find studies (both in general or anything recent, but you already talked about the 5-10 years out of date)
December 11, 2025 at 5:25 AM
yeah it's definitely like, still being studied, i agree it MIGHT be understudied due to the replication crisis but I think the other issue is any information in published journals is also not being effectively communicated to the general public + there's a lot of stigma to fight against

🇸🇨 Seychelles has 8 endemic caecilian species. Seven of them can all be found in Morne Seychellois National Park on Mahé island. These limbless amphibians are highly understudied due to their underground burrowing lifestyle. However, the difficulty makes finding one very rewarding!

It is another bad consequence of the war on drugs that illegal drugs have been understudied and we don't know enough about them.

On an expedition to a remote Peruvian reserve to search for a squirrel last seen 30 years ago, researcher Silvia Pavan’s team instead discovered a new mouse opossum species, Marmosa chachapoya.

With reddish-brown fur and a narrow face, it highlights how understudied the eastern Andes remain.
Peru’s Río Abiseo park yields new marsupial, hinting at more undiscovered species
In 2018, Brazilian biologist Silvia Pavan traveled to Río Abiseo National Park, in Peru’s San Martín region, following the trail of a squirrel species first described from there in the 1990s. At the…

Yeah the fact that the Iran-Iraq War is so understudied in the US compared to other conflicts is a real problem because it really is the closest comparison.
I think the best parallel is the Iran-Iraq War. It’s a brutal slog between under equipped and exhausted conventional military forces that probably has no real bearing on how other contemporary conventional conflicts be will be fought.
Looking back through history, what war is most relevant for thinking about how the Ukraine war is going or a hypothetical Taiwan war? I’ve heard of people referring to the Ukraine War as “World War 1 with Blade Runner aesthetics” is that a fair characterization?

Elite social media self-radicalization remains profoundly understudied given how central it has become to global politics...
It's become normal now for high-level political figures to argue that an entire generation was brainwashed through fake videos into mass anti-Israel political mobilization by TikTok. Complete conspiracy thinking, rooted in zero evidence, based on nothing
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

In small sample sizes and understudied populations, our GRM-based approach outperforms existing methods, all of which rely on GWAS summary statistics. Unlike GWAS, constructing GRMs does not require biobank-scale data, and in-sample GRMs are inherently robust to portability concerns. (5/6)
