Meant to add this to the thread! A very cool TMP Hoover. I may swipe a few details from this. I had already planned to make the top of the saucer a kind of staging area for components.
Neat! An auxillary craft carrier of some form was also what I immediately thought of in my own interpretation. :-) Sometimes its fighters, but more usually its carrying flights of heavy shuttles and/or construction craft for major space-lift operations or deep space development projects.
