At the moment, I'm working as a locums so that I have time for activism.
I've been at underserved areas in the San Joaquin Valley under the aegis of University of California, Davis.
Rural outposts allow subspecialists more time with patients, but beat the hell out of primary care.

Not sure that’s true of pediatric subspecialists. A friend had a much higher offer in Canada than in the states.

Look at that little cluster of Peds subspecialties on the right side. Not surprising, since doctors completing these fellowships work extremely hard for 2-4 years to be paid LESS than many general pediatricians.
We need to improve pay parity for our pediatric subspecialists!

Also, subspecialists have it much easier getting PSLF given that residency, fellowship, and time in academic medicine all count, so they can't be dragged out to rural areas by loan forgiveness

current sicca/SSA/lip bx limited Sjogrens criteria hinder this process.
Unlike Rheum wc is good at cobbling together disparate sxs to an overarching dx, Neuro is better at winnowing out sxs to diff neuro localizations that get seen by diff Neuro subspecialists.

Just disheartening to see the snowballing effect of fewer new MDs going into pediatrics leading to fewer pediatric subspecialists.
Who knows how pediatric reimbursement gets leveled up to adult levels in this political & funding environment 🤷♂️

Hey #medtwitter #cardiotwitter #EPeeps #ACCFIT who else thinks it's ridiculous that specialists and subspecialists have to do a full ROS to bill for a consult? It's bonkers that if I'm evaluating for STEMI, I 'have to' ask about every other system. How can this be changed? 🤔
