Your "wifi scope" concept is basically just the equivalent of GoTo tags in simulink, which are always tempting to use but something I'm never happy to find when looking at someone else's code because they make it soooo much harder to follow the signal flow.

It depends on how you design the interface. While I hate Mathworks with a passion, Simulink actually does this quite well. You can click and drag on the right side of a go-to block to quickly create a corresponding "from" block. Using these is standard practice in my industry.
