Here's the before and after on an Indigo GameCube I'm wrapping up for a customer (just need to finish PicoBoot install)

Not back to 100% (these rarely do) but definitely closer to the color it should be!

Remembered I had a Game Boy Player with a grody shell, and I couldn't get a transparent one because the RF shielding is rusted, so I decided to just spraypaint it

I think it came out okay for a first-time paintjob. Need to get a new bottom label though.

On a colour-matched Picoboot-modded GameCube as well, with a GBA flash cart, no less. Also, I don't use the original GBP boot disc, as it's inferior to Game Boy Interface and stupid expensive. My optical drive doesn't work anyways.

But that's not exactly a super accessible option for most people.

Very surprised you didn't get a Flippy!
These picoloaders are a bit odd to me since they do the same as picoboot as just an IPL hijack, but the no-solder appeal is good for having a gateway to Swiss (and maybe m2 loader if/when that comes)

Oh! I have not seen this quick easy solder ribbon cable before for the picoboot install! I've always followed a guide like this and soldered 5 wires to these points on the pico then mounted the pi somewhere nearby.

Picoboot needs your wiring to not be too long, otherwise it can't bypass the stock BIOS. It's usually meant to be installed near the Gamecube's fan, but Natalie opts got a more direct approach, to prevent having to desolder, cut, and resolder the wire, to get the wire length right.

Finished a #picoboot install for someone. Got me scratching my head for a while, it just would not detect it. After googling a bit I found someone with a similar problem who solved it by downgrading to picoboot 0.3 (from 0.4). That worked for me. #retrogaming #gamecube

This GameCube was a Picoboot install for a friend!

It uses a Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller to circumvent the firmware loading process, letting you boot into homebrew.

It had a broken disc drive and was probably going languish in storage and then go to a dump.

But look at her now!
I am posting about tech again! waow!

i'm wanting to get back into tech-as-hobby in a big way

a medium way

Finally got around to recapping my GameCube's disc drive. It wasn't reading discs when I got it, so I installed PicoBoot on it. There isn't much point in fixing the disc drive, but yeah why the hell not if I could

Slowly getting my soldering mojo back by modding my #Gamecube with a #PicoBoot.
Finally got it to work after noticing the solder jumper on the back for the 3.3V supply.🙄

Had the most total and utter "this should have taken 5 minutes" kind of 7 hours today 🤪
So many mistakes from me for just a picoboot, my god. But, as much as I kept faceplanting, I got it done.
These are usually butter for me but...man

My dream GameCube is basically complete, it's fully modded with Picoboot.
I got a component splitter and component capture card as well! All I need now is a CRT to replace my flatscreen to get the full experience :3

I did one inside next to the fan before. But I really like it in this location, so you can actually see it. I did downgrade the picoboot firmware to 0.3 because 0.4 would not be detected and everything is still working. But better to be safe than sorry.

Repaired a customer's failed GameCube PicoBoot install. Ripped a leg clean off the chip and destroyed a pad. Easy fix. Just grind away the IC package to expose the pin so you can solder to it. Run wire through that via and solder to the other side for extra security. Then UV mask it. Voila.
