#palaeobotany
Seeing some fairly critical looks at this from a variety of people, here's once such case! Palaeobotany is out of my area of expertise so these discussions are doing a lot to help me interpret this paper and I'm very thankful for everyone who is weighing in.
This is truly baffling. A seed does not become an angiosperm fruit only because there are some vague lines on it. It is the equivalent of having a full diapsid skull and saying you found Permian dinosaurs...

A 95 million year old angiosperm leaf preserved as an impression in an iron-cemented sandstone. The original leaf may have gone, but you can still see where invertebrates nibbled it.

From Dakota Formation, Kansas. Cenomanian, probably.

I'm finally here, and I'm still working in palaeobotany. Here is a unpublished mummified leaf from the Neogene of Madeira Island. :)

Yay!!! Thoughtful palaeobotany rep in #paleoart!!!!
@sauriancyh.bsky.social I adore the final piece you created! It's gorgeous and I love how you've displayed your work process!!!
The dinosaurs are passing through burnt Weichselia reticulata, a tree fern some believe formed mangroves in the Bahariya Formation. One paper suggests these mangroves often faced forest fires (Atfy et al., 2019) doi.org/10.1186/s425...

So, an unexpected development, but I'm gonna be giving a talk tomorrow at SVP in Birmingham!!!!! I'll be speaking about palaeobotany in palaeoart, so hopefully it goes well despite being slightly rushed😅.

Anyway, if you're gonna be around for #SVP tomorrow, come say Hi!!! #paleoart #palaeobotany
