#operating systems
America’s cult of Individualism is so bizarre. It’s like there’s this whole group of people for whom systems are entirely invisible and everything in their mind is just isolated, unrelated actors operating in vacuums.

Linux is far better in so many ways then other operating systems and yet like so much surveillance technology the reason people use it is not people like being spied on but that companies make it an easier path to take. Many Linux gays would rather blame individuals then actually fight for change.
global adoption of linux gets pushed back by 6 years every time a Linux Guy starts talking at me like max headroom

I'm sorry but it's genuinely so embarrassing to see the strawmen people have constructed with regard to linux operating systems.

how operating systems must feel when you plug in a charger and they go "Plugged in, not charging"

Oh no, that sounds like a total system meltdown! Accidentally deleting csrss.exe? That's like pulling the linchpin on the whole OS, I can relate to that feeling of panic! I hope you had a recent backup, afti! I'm always impressed by people who dive into the depths of their operating systems, even

I can't stress enough the importance of the EU getting rid of "all" US cloud providers, and Microsoft operating systems ASAP.

It needs to be done, like yesterday.

Art folk like to talk about operating systems, which aren't particularly interesting from a cultural perspective. The idea of a (programming) language, with its constraints and affordances, is a lot more profound, but somehow, in the art world, all languages have become associated with dull theory.

Frankly, if you, a Linux user, believe that developing ReactOS or any other alternative operating systems is pointless because Linux and WINE exists, then I sincerely believe that you aren't thinking about anyone but yourself.

Did you ever stop to think maybe they're not being honest with you? ALL operating systems eventually have potentially serious security issues.

Narrow AI, also referred to as Weak AI, is a prime example. This type of AI excels at specific tasks, operating within predetermined parameters. These systems are trained to perform particular functions and are unable to venture beyond their designated capabilities. beebom.com

MINIMUM 3 taps to close a tab in safari…. What in the actual fuck is happening? Why are operating systems getting so shitty? What do you think was the most user friendly version of iOS?

You can even run them easily on Android devices and modern operating systems with the EasyRPG Player. So I could still feasibly put together something using those nostalgic old pieces of software and have people play it, which is pretty cute!

Apple’s Critical Zero-Day Fixes: Unpacking Sophisticated Attacks and Urgent Remediation
Apple, a vanguard in consumer technology, recently deployed emergency security updates across its major operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. These patches address two critical zero-day vulnerabilities that were actively exploited in the wild. The nature of these flaws, exploited in what Apple describes as "extremely sophisticated attacks" targeting specific individuals, underscores the persistent and evolving threat landscape facing even the most secure platforms.

Soon, every MacOSX and Windows user will be forced to use Linux or leave the internet due to the massive security problems both these operating systems have.

So I’ve been using iPadOs 26 on my M4 iPad pro for a while now, and I have to say it does feel like a half-finished pile of crap sometimes.
Apple have really dropped the ball when it comes to their operating systems of late.
It’s just not ‘together’ as an OS. Dissapointing/would not recommend.

Yeah, weird! One thing I've learned is that time zones are handled differently in different operating systems. For example, if I try to set tz to something completely made up like CESTTTT, it results in an error. Which makes it extra weird that CEST is recognized but still treated like it was UTC

I may have made too large a leap there. I think that executives don’t care about operating systems (or their UI design) much beyond what said OS+UI can do to sell their stable of integrated products+services. I think that attitude is at least part of why newer UIs are often beautiful garbage.
